Head to the hats exhibition at the V&A for a stunning selection of design and fashion throughout the ages. The Victoria and Albert Museum has teamed up with respected hat designer Stephen Jones to create a gorgeous show of artistic headwear, and includes many items on display for the first time.

Hats exhibition at V&A
Entitled Hats: An Anthology, the hats exhibition at the V&A is the museum's first show devoted entirely to headwear, and features over 300 hats. Presented in a Baroque style, box hedged garden setting, a visit to this exhibition is destined to be an ethereal and memorable experience.

Historical hats
With a nod to the museum's namesakes, the hats exhibition at the V&A begins with the top hat of Prince Albert and Queen Victoria's bonnet, and explores how modern designers have been inspired by the fashions of past eras. Also on display is an Egyptian Anubis mask from around 600BC, as well as a look at the baseball cap, bowler, and tricorn designs.

Contemporary fashion
A highlight for many visitors to the Hats: An Anthology show will be the couture designs of the 20th and 21st centuries, including contributions from Chanel, Christian Dior, Philip Treacy, and of course Stephen Jones himself. With other areas of the show devoted to explanations of the craftmanship and creative processes of millinery, this might turn out to be one of the must see exhibitions in spring 2009 for those with a taste for fashion and design.

Famous faces
In The Client section of Hats: An Anthology, you will be able to see hats that have graced celebrity heads and starred in some iconic films. Hats worn by Madonna, Dita von Teese and Boy George can be viewed, along with two hats designed by Cecil Beaton for My Fair Lady and Marlene Dietrich's beret.

The hats exhibition at V&A is open from 10am - 5.45pm, Tuesday 24th February - Sunday 31st May 2009. Tickets cost £4.00 - £5.00 and can be booked by clicking on the link below.
