Celebrate the Hayward Gallery's 40th birthday with the very special Hayward Gallery 40p day when you will only have to pay 40p to enter the renowned arts venue. Allowing you to see the spectacular exhibition Psycho Buildings for a mere 40p rather than the standard entry price of £10.00, the Hayward gives you a present on its birthday.

In the run up to the Hayward Gallery 40p day there are several other events that mark the 40th anniversary of this iconic building. Having first been opened to the public back in July 1968, the Hayward was seen as a prime example of modern architecture, which was designed and purpose built as a gallery. Now it marks 40 years as one of the country's largest and most versatile art spaces with a focus on the diverse and culturally stimulating events that the gallery has become renowned for.

Two days before the Hayward Gallery 40p day on Wednesday 9th July you can enjoy a discussion from several distinguished artists that takes the Hayward building as its starting point. Join Antony Gormley, Anish Kapoor and Dennis Crompton as they talk about the profound consequences of architecturally designing an art gallery. This event takes place in the Queen Elizabeth Hall at 7pm, and tickets are £8.00 each.

More art is up for debate on the Hayward Gallery 40p day itself as artists Jeremy Deller and Robin Rhode amongst others explore the ways in which exhibitions interact with the public. This event takes place in the Purcell Room at 7pm, and tickets are £6.00 each.

If you are wondering what your 40p will get you on Friday 11th July, then take a closer look at the Psycho Buildings exhibition. Bringing together artists from all over the world, the exhibition examines the nature of architecture and invites visitors to explore the physical world around them. Interactive in the truest sense of the word, you can clamber over inflatble Eden-Project like structures and sail on a boat on an infinity pool on the roof. With a huge variety of spaces to explore inside, Psycho Buildings is a stunning exploration of the possibilities of architectural design.
