The biggest and most exciting of all the airports in Britain, the Heathrow Terminal 5 opening on 27th March, heralds a new dawn of air travel in London. With the biggest free standing airport building attached to the outskirts of our fair capital city by the end of the Piccadilly line, you can now eat, shop, drink, and even go on holiday in this amazing venue.

Having cost £4.3 billion to make and 6 years to complete, Heathrow Terminal 5 was officially opened by the Queen on 14th March, and will now be opening to the public on 27th March. Crammed full of exciting holiday bound planes, with over 150 check in desks, 20 security lanes, 11 baggage reclaim belts and one spanking new efficient baggage hanlding system, Terminal 5 is the only place to head for flights out of the UK this year.

But if holidays are just the icing on the cake of the shopping and eating opportinities that airports provide you with, then with the Heathrow Terminal 5 opening this year, you can spend your time in a whirl of exciting shops and funky restaurants.

Highlights of the shops at Terminal 5 will gladden the hearts of those that like a little bling as Tiffany and Co. have their first European airport store opening here along with Bulagri and Dior. Harrods Department Store have a fabulous Denim Bar for anyone with a love of jeans, and Paul Smith's Globe is sure to pull in those with a desire for exclusive designs. Gucci, Kurt Gieger, Links of London, Mappin and Webb, Mulberry and Prada are just a few of the luxury brand names who will keep you entertained while you wait for your flight.

Fancy a bite to eat? The big lure for foodie fans at the Heathrow Terminal 5 opening is the arrival of Gordon Ramsay's Plane Food. With a menu based on the Boxwood Cafe, you can tuck into delicious cuisine while watching the planes zoom across the London skies. Other hot eateries and bars to spend your time in are Amato, Carluccios, Apostrophe, V Bar, Itsu and Huxleys.

And as if that wasn't quite enough to convince you that the opening of Heathrow Terminal 5 is the best thing to happen to aviation travel since the Wright brothers, then you can always content yourselves with some of the fantastic sights around the airport. Check out the tempting chocolate fountain at Chocolate Box, see the life sized giraffe at kid friendly restaurant Giraffe, enjoy a bit of culture with the art wall at Bagel Street, and appreciate the celebration of British culture and events in the exposition at the check in area.

The Heathrow Terminal 5 opening takes place at around 4am on Thursday 27th March.
