Handel House Museum hosts the Hendrix in Britain exhibition London event this year as they mark the 40th anniversary of the musician's death. Celebrating his life and music, along with his time spent in London, the exhibition is certain to be extremely popular with fans of the famous 60s rock icon.
Hendrix in Britain exhibition
London was home to Jimi Hendrix for the last four years of his life, where he lived, wrote and played his music. Having come to the city for the very first time in 1966, he toured and performed all over the UK, before returning to rent a flat in Brook Street in 1968 with his girlfriend Kathy Etchingham. Taking place at the Handel House Museum, which is next door to that very flat, the Hendrix in Britain exhibition London event is a must see show for anyone with a passion for Jimi Hendrix and his amazing guitar skills.
Take a tour
As part of the Hendrix in Britain exhibition, the Handel House Museum is opening up 23 Brook Street where Jimi Hendrix lived for two years before his death, to give visitors the rare treat of seeing the exact places where he lived and wrote his music. Attached to the museum as administrative offices, these rooms have only ever been seen as part of one off events, meaning tickets for the limited period tours will be extremely popular. The flat will only be open for 12 days of the exhibition, including the actual anniversary of the musician's death on 18th September.
Tickets for the tours of Jimi Hendrix flat went on sale on at 9am on Tuesday 1st June 2010.
Exhibition highlights
Covering his time in Britain and his many gigs, tours and performances, the Hendrix in Britain exhibition includes a great deal of music memorabilia that will excite gans of his albums. Included amongst the exhibition highlights are a orange velvet hat and jacket worn during a performance, a display of handwritten lyrics, and excerpts from his classic songs. Located at the Handel House Museum, which is next door to the only Hendrix site in the world to be officially recognised, what better place is there to celebrate the life of this amazing music star.
Special events
As the museum explores the major contribution that Jimi Hendrix made to the music scene during the 60s, the Hendrix in Britain exhibition invites you to look more closely at how he played and the way he used different technologies in the studio and on stage. You can also see a map of London detailing the venues he performed at and other significant sites relating to the musician. Along with his legacy being discussed by guitarists and songwriters he inspired, there will also be a series of special events including guitar workshops for budding rock fans.
