See one of England's most famous kings in new light at the Henry VIII exhibition at the Tower of London. Marking the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII's ascension to the throne, the Dressed to Kill show presents a massive array of the king's arms and armour.

Henry VIII exhibition at Tower of London
Displayed over three floors of the White Tower in the famous royal palace, the Henry VIII exhibition at the Tower of London features armour and weapons that were custom made for the king. He might be more famous these days for his six wives and the political upheavals caused by his tumultuous relationship with the Catholic Church, but the rare and priceless items on show at the exhibition reveal Henry as a man of action who built his identity around his military and sporting prowess.

Dressed to Kill
Titled Henry VIII: Dressed to Kill, the Henry VIII exhibition at the Tower of London brings together artifacts from the Royal Armouries and unique items from international collections. Together for the first time since the reign of Henry's daughter, Elizabeth I, the exhibition reveals the fashions of the royal Tudor court, as well as the impression of power and wealth that Henry attempted to send out to the world through his impressive weapons and personal armour.

Exhibition highlights
The Dressed to Kill exhibition will be the largest ever single collection of suits of armour known to have belonged King Henry VIII, and will include examples from the king's sporting and military life. Highlights include the Tonlet armour, made around 1520, that Henry used to compete in the Cloth of the Field of Gold foot combat tournament.

Later suits of armour
The Tower of London show also includes the armour from the last tournament that Henry is known to have organised in 1540. Made in Greenwich, the huge suit of armour gives an indication of Henry's super sized waistline towards the end of his life, but many visitors' eyes will also be drawn to the prominent codpiece, the must have fashion item of the day.

The Henry VIII exhibition at the Tower of London runs from Friday 3rd April 2009 - Sunday 17th January 2010. Entrance to the show is included in the standard admission price, which is £17.00 for adults and £9.50 for children aged 5 - 16. Children under 5 go free.
