Showing a fascinating and enormous range of Turner watercolours, the Hockney on Turner exhibition at Tate Britain gives visitors the chance to see 150 of the great artists work. Normally passed over in favour of his oil colours this Turner show provides art lovers with the chance to see these beautiful watercolour paintings in comprehensive overview of his style and development.

At the centre of the Tate Britain show is a commentary from one of the greatest artists of the twentieth and twenty first century. David Hockney on Turner provides a selection of his own favourite pieces and studies, whilst telling the viewer his own personal standpoint.

JMW Turner is synonymous with the Tate galleries as the Tate Britain holds one of the largest of his collections and the famous Turner art prize causes controversy in the art world every year. David Hockney is major contributor to art in London, and so to see the pair together in one exhibition is an intriguing prospect that will fascinate fans of both or either artist.

Tracking his work from the early days, the Hockney on Turner exhibition takes the viewer right through all aspects of his painting, from architecture to historic landscape, nature studies and finished work, to private sketches. Showing his extraordinary range of skill and technique as a watercolour artist, Hockney picks out the pieces that were hugely influential on other artists at the time, and in the future, as well as the ones that would compete with his oil paintings for fame and beauty.

Included in the watercolours on display in the Hockney on Turner show is The Blue Rigi, a magnificent painting of a sunrise from 1842 which was recently acquired by the Tate with the help of the most successful public appeal ever.
