The Holocaust Exhibition in London's Imperial War Museum takes visitors on a heartrending journey through the history of the mass extermination of the Jews during the Second World War. Featuring first hand accounts and personal artefacts from the time, this permanent exhibition takes a fascinating and emotive look at the horrors of the Nazi regime.
The Holocaust Exhibition
Imperial War Museum London is renowned for its clever and thoughtful exhibitions that examine the nature of warfare and its affect on the lives of the people living through it, and this permanent show is no different. Starting with the political unrest that still disturbed Europe following the First World War, the Holocaust exhibition traces the rise of the Nazis and Hitler's anti-Semitic plans up to construction of the concentration camps in 1939.
Exhibition highlights
Visitors to the galleries are invited to examine at first hand photographs, documents, newspapers, artefacts, posters and films that depict the persecution, slaughter, collaboration and resistance to the movement that overran Europe. Along with distorted scientific evidence that supported the Nazi claims and the isolation of the German jews, the spread of anti-Jewish feeling is highlighted by the articles on show at the Holocaust Exhibition.
Survivors' stories
Contrasting with the exhibits from the Concentration Camps and the deportation railways, there are also personal effects from the men, women and children who suffered at the hands of the regime. Toys, diaries, photograph albums, story books, hand made mementos and the testimonies of 18 survivors bring a more hopeful perspective to the story.
