An extraordinary Hungarian photography exhibition London event takes place at the Royal Academy of Arts during 2011, which demonstrates the huge talent and wide ranging influence various Hungarian photographers of the 20th century had. From the early days of the First World War up to the late 1980s, the exhibition highlights key artists and some of their most striking work.

Hungarian photography exhibition
London has several annual photo exhibition events take place through the year, but none quite like this. Specifically dedicated to the birth of modern photography, the exhibition, entitled Eyewitness, showcases the work of the most famous Hungarian photographers, such as Brassai, Robert Capa, Andre Kertesz and Laslo Moholy-Nagy, with over 200 different pieces included in the exhibition.

Modern talent
Many of those included in the Hungarian photography exhibition emmigrated to Europe and America during their careers and became hugely influential outside their native land. Others such as Roduol Balogh and Karoly Escher stayed in Hungary and captured the spirit of their own country on film. Highlighting their own personal styles and favoured subject matters, the exhibition also shows how the artists were at the front of developing new and technologically advanced techniques.

Famous faces
Many of the photographers included in the show will have names that you may not recognise but that went on to become world renowned during their day. Martin Munkacsi became highly successful in Budapest and Berlin, and eventually worked for Harper's Bazaar photographing celebrities and fashion models. Robert Capa has often been cited as one of the greatest war photographers, as he captured various different conflicts including the Spanish Civil War and D-Day landings, before co-founding Magnum Photos with Henri Cartier Bresson.

Exhibition highlights
Brassai was renowned for taking his classic portraits of Picasso during his time in Paris, and on show at the RA are his stunning photos of the sights, streets and people of the French city at night. Another highlight will no doubt be Rudolf Balogh's photos of the rural Magyar life along, which demonstrate the juxtaposition of the modern use of photography against the background of 19th century working traditions. Having collated work from the Hungarian National Museum of Photography and the National Museum of Budapest, the Hungarian photography exhibition London event is set to be one of the most comprehensive of its kind.

Eyewitness, the Hungarian photography exhibition London event takes place from Thursday 30th June - Sunday 2nd October 2011 at The Royal Academy of Arts. Tickets are £9.00, £7.00-£8.00 concessions, £4.00 for 12-18 year olds, £3.00 for 8-11 year olds, and free for under 7s.
