Hussein Chalayan Exhibition at Design Museum

Fans of fashion and design are in for a treat at the Hussein Chalayan exhibition at the Design Museum. A retrospective of the avant garde designer's past fifteen years of experimental work, the show will feature some of Chalayan's most breathtaking pieces that take fashion design in exciting new directions.

The first major presentation of the fashion designer's work in the UK, the Hussein Chalayan exhibition at the Design Museum will give visitors the chance to discover first hand what makes Chalayan's work so special. Noted for his creative use of materials and imaginative use of new technology, Chalayan has been twice awarded the title British Designer of the Year and made a big impact at the 2005 Venice Biennale with his video art installation that featured Tilda Swinton.

Exhibition themes
Set to be a thorough exploration of the creative processes behind many of the key works, the Hussein Chalayan exhibition at the Design Museum will also touch on the themes that influence Chalayan's art. Concerns such as cultural identity and migration recur throughout the Chalayan pieces in the show that span fifteen years of the designer's career.

Show highlights
Bound to be of special interest to many visitors to the show are the pieces which fuse new technologies with fashion design. A particularly eye catching dress, Readings is made of over 200 moving lasers and can be seen alongside Before Minus Now, a dress made of materials used in aircrafts which changes shape via remote control. Also on show will be Airborne, a dress with Swarovski crystals and over 15,000 twinkling LED lights.

The Hussein Chalayan exhibition at the Design Museum is open daily 10am - 5.45pm, Thursday 22nd January - Sunday 17th May 2009. Tickets cost £8.50 and can be booked in advance by calling 0207 940 8783.
