An amazing show by artist Jean Francois Rauzier takes place at the Waterhouse and Dodd gallery this winter, as the French creative opens his Hyperphotos exhibition. London art and photography fans are sure to be thrilled by this show which includes some stunning technologically manipulated images.
Hyperphotos exhibition
London should be fairly used to seeing grandscale exhibitions by now, as the multitude of galleries throughout the city put on thousands of striking shows all year round. But none are quite like the hyperphotos of Jean Francois Rauzier. Created from hundreds and thousands of separate photographic images, these amazing pictures take hours to create and some measure an astonishing three metres across.
Art, photography and technology
Ever heard of hyperphotos before? For the uninitiated, they are the combination of thousands of individual close up photographs, taken with a telephoto lens. The pictures are then glued together using a very sophisticated version of Photoshop until the lines between them can no longer be seen by the naked eye. Capturing the intimate details of an interior and its objects, before adding subtle and amusing details of his own, the Jean Francois Rauzier Hyperphotos are a technological collage of amazing proportions.
Amazing landscapes and stunning interiors
The Hyperphotos exhibition presents these images on a very dramatic scale as the finished hyperphotos can be reproduced at anything up to 30 feet by ten feet, without losing any of their original quality. These huge pictures are made even more stunning by the very nature of their style, as the manipulation of the images creates a very Escher-like effect on the distance and proportions of the buildings in the Hyperphotos.
Exhibition highlights
One of the most stunning pictures included in the Hyperphotos exhibition London event is a pair of companion pieces, entitled Citadelle 1 and 2. Citadelle 1 is based on a venue in Paris where Karl Largerfeld recently stayed. More than 1,000 photos were used to create it, and to demonstrate Rauzier's love of literature, 60 different authors are included peering out of windows or emerging from behind doors. The more eagle eyed art fan will spot Charles Dickens, Franz Kafka, Hans Christian Anderson, Lewis Carroll, Edgar Allan Poe and Stephen King.
The Hyperphotos exhibition by Jean Francois Rauzier takes place from Wednesday 25th November - Friday 18th December 2009 at Waterhouse and Dodd Gallery. The exhibition is free to attend.
