Ice Sculpting Festival at Canary Wharf

See sculptures carved from giant blocks of ice at the ice sculpting festival at Canary Wharf, which sees sculptors from around the world go head to head in a competition to find the best artists currently working with ice.

Live competition
Featuring some of the finest ice sculptors from around the world, the ice sculpting festival at Canary Wharf features teams of sculptures working against the clock and against each other to create beautiful sculptures from 2x2m blocks of ice. Cheer on the team from the UK as they compete against groups from around the world in this fast paced contest.

Festival theme
Last year, the theme for the ice sculpting festival at Canary Wharf was Love London, so the ice sculptors drew on the city's history and culture and took their inspiration from the very location where their sculptures were on show. This year, the festival makes a welcome return to Canary Wharf, so expect to see even more in the way of original and innovative creations.

Exhibition
Art fans can see work being created live at the ice sculpting festival at Canary Wharf, which sees members of the teams wield both powerful chainsaws and delicate chipping tools and chisels to create their displays. The winning entry will be announced on Saturday, but before then you can take a walk around the works and judge for yourself which one you think is the best.

Masterclass
There's also the chance to learn some ice sculpting techniques yourself at the festival at a free masterclass. Get to grips with the tools of the trade at the masterclass, which is open to those over the age of 12. Spaces are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The ice sculpting festival at Canary Wharf takes place at Canada Square Park, Montgomery Square and Jubilee Place Shopping Mall, and runs from Friday 13th January - Saturday 14th January 2012. Admission is free.
