Head to Canary Wharf to see beautiful sculptures carved out of solid ice at the fourth annual Ice Sculpting Festival London event. Taking place in Canada Square Park next to the popular ice rink as well as Montgomery Square and Jubilee Place Shopping Mall, the festival is free and open to all.
Ice carving talent
Giving you the chance to see the ice sculptors creating work live on the site, the Ice Sculpting Festival London event promises plenty of fast paced action and creative talent in abundance. Teams of international sculptors will be working against the clock and against each other to create the best work of art from 2x2m blocks of ice.
Competitive spirit
Art fans can cheer on the UK team as they go head to head against teams from around the world to create eye catching ice sculptures. Competitors in the Ice Sculpting Festival London contest will use chainsaws, chipping tools and delicate chisels to create the ice sculptures at Canary Wharf, with the winning entry being announced on Saturday.
Snow pit
As well as being able to watch all the ice sculptures take shape, members of the public get hands on at the snow pit, which can be found at Montgomery Square during the Ice Sculpting Festival. London visitors can make snowmen or snowcastles out of real snow in the pit, and then warm up with hot winter food and drinks from the nearby Frost Fayre.
Festival theme
The theme for the doubles competition at this year's festival is winter sports, so expect to see plenty of ice sculptures which take their inspiration from snowboarding and skiing. The theme for the singles competition is team spirit, an appropriate choice in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Ice Sculpting Festival London event takes place from Friday 13th January - Saturday 14th January 2012. Admission is free.
The snow pit is open from 10am - 6pm on both days of the festival. The doubles competition takes place from 9am - 7pm Friday and 8am - 2pm Saturday, while the singles competition takes place from 2.30pm - 4pm on Saturday. The judging and prize giving takes place from 4pm on Saturday.
The festival takes place at Canada Square Park, Montgomery Square and Jubilee Place Shopping Mall, Canary Wharf.
