Kids, families and those with a thirst for scientific knowledge can attend the Ice Worlds London screenings at the National Maritime Museum to discover more about the vital role of ice on Earth and moons and planets throughout the solar system. Running from 1st June - 17th July 2009, the screenings take place in the planetarium of the Royal Observatory in Greenwich and are narrated by Harry Potter star, Emily Watson.

Ice Worlds London
Using cutting edge graphic technology to animate digital photos taken by scientists studing the Earth's ice caps, the Ice World London film screenings links in with the National Maritime Museum's new exhibition, North West Passage: An Arctic Obsession, which charts the 18th and 19th century attempts to find a passage across the polar ice cap. Ice Worlds looks at the Arctic and Antarctic regions of Earth, as well as Saturn's moon, Titan.

The building block on planets
One of the important building blocks of planets, ice can be found throughout the solar system and further still. The Ice Worlds London show will explore the possible consequences of global warming on the ice of Earth's polar regions, as well as the many different landscapes where ice can be found throughout space. From photographs of Earth's ice caps to digitally animated representations of Titan's landscape, there should be plenty to engage and amaze all ages.

Show highlights
Hightlights of the film screening at the Royal Observatory include footage of a massive iceberg splitting away from a glacier in Iceland, as well as NASA satellite pictures of sea ice changing in the Arctic Ocean. Royal Observatory astronomers will be available to answer any questions after the show.

The Ice Worlds London film screenings at the National Martime Museum run from Monday 1st June - Friday 17th July 2009. Show times are 3pm Monday - Friday, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm during the weekend and on holidays, and 2pm from 27th - 28th June.

Ticket prices are £6.00 for adults, £4.00 for children, and £16.00 for a family ticket for two adults and two children. Tickets can be bought on the day of your visit, or in advance by calling 020 8312 6608.
