An exhibition of Ilustrated Fashion at Design Museum takes place during 2010 and 11, as the museum explores the world of haute couture on paper. Featuring a wealth of designs from some of the biggest fashion houses in the world, this is one exhibition not to be missed by fashion students or fashionistas keen to see behind the scenes of their favourite styles.

Illustrated Fashion at Design Museum
Showcasing fashion designs and sketches from 1912 up to the present day, the exhibition of Illustrated Fashion at Design Museum invites you to learn more about the designing process behind garments, and see exactly what inspires designers to create the garments the way they do. Featuring classic items that have passed into fashion legend, or are certain to end up that way, this is a stunning collection of illustrations that will shed new light onto the creative world of fashion.

The story of fashion
As each garment is despicted by an illustrator working closely alongside the designer, the illustrations become a truly collaborative work. Combining the worlds of art and design, the drawings in Illustrated Fashion at Design Museum tell the story of the clothes in a way that photography cannot. By capturing the essence and spirit of the designers intentions, the outcome is an emotive piece that demonstrates not just the single story behind one garment, but also the overall theme behind a collection.

Fashion show
It's not just drawings that are at the heart of Illustrated Fashion at Design Museum. Fashion lovers will be keen to see some key garments from various labels, shown alongside their illustrations to demonstrate the power of the drawings in encapsulating the look on paper. Epitomising the art of illustrating fashion, clothing from Chanel, Dior, Yamamoto, Comme de Garcons and Victor and Rolf is exhibited next to their drawings, allowing visitors to make direct comparissons between the 2D and 3D creations.

Illustrated Fashion at Design Museum takes place from 10am - 5.45pm, Wednesday 17th November 2010 - Sunday 6th March 2011.

Tickets are £8.50, £6.50 for concessions or £5.00 for students. Children under 12 go free.
