The Imagine Childrens Festival is taking place at the Southbank Centre once again in 2012, inviting children and adults alike to enjoy literature, music, poetry, plays, comedy and much, much more.
Let your imagination fly
A celebration of children’s literature and performing arts culture, the Imagine Childrens Festival brings together a collection of acclaimed authors and artists in one of the best-loved events of its kind. Children and adults can enjoy everything from a special performance by Dennis the Menace to appearances by Jacqueline Wilson and Francesca Simon, plus orchestral music and a staging of Michael Morpurgo's Private Peaceful.
2012 festival
Billed as the biggest Imagine yet, the 2012 Imagine Childrens Festival features over 50 ticketed and free events, so you can expect to find something to suit even the most discerning of young tastes at the Southbank Centre over the fortnight. With storytelling, opera for babies and fun science experiments with Robert Winston all on the programme, there is something for everyone to enjoy, no matter what their age.
Special guests
A selection of guests are making special appearances at Imagine, treating audiences to live readings and exclusive sessions. Special guests include Cathy Cassidy, Cressida Cowell, Jeremy Strong, Tony Ross and many more, including Korky Paul of Winnie the Witch fame and Steve Cole, the creator of the much loved Astrosaurs.
For all ages
Highlights of the Imagine Childrens Festival include a whirlwind musical tour of the animal kingdom at the Carnival of the Animals, starring the talents of a charismatic troupe of actors and the National Youth Orchestra . Meanwhile, kids aged 6 - 10 can take part in some interactive theatre at the Beastie show, while all ages can join Timberlina and Hey Baylen for bingo rounds and dancing at the free Big Bingo Show.
Exclusive events
Other events at the festival include The Trial of Dennis the Menace, an hour long stage show combining music, words and action that's bound to be a hit with Beano lovers both young and old. The festival also sees a return of the ever popular comedy and music show by James Campbell, as well as a show packed full of disgusting recipes from BBC Gastronaut Stefan Gates.
