Impact at Royal Observatory is an exhibition designed to explore the history of meteors, comets and asteroids and their potential effects on our planet. Taking place as part of the Impact season at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, the exhibition invites you to take a closer look at the giant lumps of burning rock that occassionally crash into the earth.

Impact at Royal Observatory
Stunning photos, awe-inspiring films and interactive exhibits make up this exhibition at the Royal Observatory. Examining the possibility of global destruction in the style seen in the disaster movie Deep Impact, scientists at Greenwich have put together a show that allows you to learn about the power of meteorites and how they could give us clues about the violent formation of our galaxy.

Giant asteroids
From giant asteroids to meteor showers, the Impact at Royal Observatory exhibition looks at the hows, whys and wheres of debris from space. Whether it provides a beautiful spectacle in the night sky or a devastating crater on the earth's surface, both asteroids and meteorites are extremely useful to scientists researching the formation of the universe.

The science bit
Here you can see just what the space debris is made from, how fast it travels and what the consequence of it hitting the earth could be. With a chance to see and touch real space rocks in the gallery, Impact at Royal Observatory is the perfect exhibition for anyone with a passion for learning more about space and the history of the solar system.

The exhibition Impact at Royal Observatory takes place from Saturday 12th March - Monday 29th August 2011. Entrance is free.
