In Motion at Southbank Centre

A series of free dance events inspired by the visit from the English National Ballet, In Motion at Southbank Centre sees two weeks of July taken up with the spirit of dance. From the classical ballet of the English National to the Big Chair dance performed by 200 older Londoners, there is something to inspire and excite everyone.

From performing to participating In Motion at Southbank Centre celebrates and revels in the various forms of dance that are currently popular. Try your hand at ballet with the English National youth dance festival, catch stunning performances of Kathak dancing with artists in residence Gauri Sharma Tripathi or celebrate the best of West End dance with performances from all the top musical shows that you know and love.

On Friday 11th July, In Motion gets civilised with the Big Chair Dance that is part of the Capital Age Festival. Designed to get older Londoners and pensioners out and about in the world of arts, the Big Chair Dance demonstrates that age is no barrier to creativity or indeed busting some cool moves.

For those that don't know their plié from their jeté, or their first position from their third, the Big Ballet Bash on Saturday 5th July is the perfect way to introduce a little classical dance into your life. All ages and abilities will be stretching at the bar and making a good go at being as graceful as the English National.

And if that sounds like too much hard work and you simply want to see the pros in action, catchteh English National Ballet masteclass on Thursday 3rd July as the ballerinas are put through their paces before one of their performances on stage at the Royal Festival Hall.
