Japan Matsuri
Called the Festival of Japanese Culture, or Japan Matsuri, the Japanese festival at Spitalfields Market celebrates the signing of the Ango-Japanese Treaty of Amity and Commerce. Regardless of whether you're Japanese yourself or merely curious to find out more about Japanese culture, there should be plenty to keep you engaged and entertained throughout the day.

Festival highlights
Highlights of the Japanese Festival at Spitalfields Market include dancing and puppetry demonstrations, plus interactive arts and crafts events for all ages. The 2010 Japan Matsuri also includes theatre, games, a wishing tree bedecked with origami, and Japanese fairytale trails.

Festival stalls
As well as all the craft stalls at the Japanese Festival at Spitalfields Market, there's also the chance to stock up on some delicious and authenic Japanese cuisine, or Wa-shoku. Expect plenty of exotic looking food and drink at the festival that will get you branching out from your tried and tested favourite noodle dish. Examples of the food on offer include octopus dumplings, sake, delicious savoury pancakes called okonomiyaki, and much more.

Japan Matsuri, the Japanese Festival at Spitalfields Market takes place from 10am - 8pm, Saturday 18th September 2010 in Crispin Place and Bishops Square. Admission is free.
