An exhibition about Jimi Hendrix at Handel House Museum will no doubt be one of the most popular exhibitions in London this year for music fans as they mark the 40th anniversary of the musician's death.
Jimi Hendrix at Handel House Museum
Despite the fact that the Handel House Museum is renowned for being the home of one famous musician, it is actually also associated with the amazing guitar skills of 60s legend Jimi Hendrix who lived in the flat next door. With a stunning collection of memorabilia and a very rare chance to take a trip around the actual property rented by Hendrix, this is bound to be one showstopping exhibition.
Hendrix in Britain
The exhibition on Jimi Hendrix at Handel House Museum focuses on his life before and after his rise to fame and his time in London, when he was at his most prolific - writing, recording and of course performing with the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Exploring several different aspects of his life and career, the exhibition features a huge range of exhibits that have rarely been seen in Britain, along with many images, film clips and excerpts from his music. Entitled Hendrix in Britain, much of the exhibition items on show come from his last significant years in London, including directions to the Isle of Wight Festival written in his own hand.
Rocking in London
Having moved to London in 1966, Hendrix then spent a great deal of his time away and touring with his band. When he as back in the city, he was often to be found performing at London clubs such as the Speakeasy, Bag O'Nails and the Marquee. As well as playing gigs all over the UK, London quickly became his base and it was his reputation here as well as his shows in America that sealed the success of his first album Are You Experienced? For fans of his music, the chance to see the exhibition on Jimi Hendrix at Handel House Museum will be an opportunity not to be missed.
23 Brook Street
George Friedrich Handel lived at 25 Brook Street during the 18th century, and around 200 years later, Jimi Hendrix moved in next door. 23 Brook Street now serves as the administrative office for the Handel House Museum, and during the Jimi Hendrix exhibition visitors will have the opportunity to view the original flat on special guided tours. Open for 12 days only, music fans will be able to take a wander through the rooms rented by Hendrix and his girlfriend Kathy Etchingham in 1968, where they entertained many other contemporary musicians and where Hendrix wrote and played his now world famous tunes.
Tickets for the tours of Jimi Hendrix flat go on sale on at 9am on Tuesday 1st June 2010 - click back soon for more information.
