Just 4 Women Summer Volleyball Festivals

Women, volleyball needs you! To encourage more women and girls to take up team sports, there are free four Just 4 Women Summer Volleyball Festivals taking place throughout August at Richmond College. It's open to all abilities, ages and fitness levels. If that's not enough to tempt you, there's chocolates for all participants.

Bored Gym Bunnies
The Just 4 Women Summer Volleyball Festivals are being run by Richmond College in association with Play Sport London, all in the spirit of getting more women to take up sport. If you've let your fitness regime slip, or you're bored of the monotony of the gym, get along to these free volleyball sessions to try out a new sport in a friendly environment. While the free chocolate tempter may seem like the antithesis of your normal fitness regime, the idea is that you have fun and to remind you that there's more to sport than just calorie burning.

Team Sports
Sessions consist of 30 minute structured coaching followed by a tournament. Don't worry if you've never played, or you're not with a club or team. The idea of the Just 4 Women Summer Volleyball Festivals is to get women who aren't involved in sports, particularly team sports, to go along to give it a try.

Trials
To take part, you simply turn up on the day and you'll be placed in a team. Each team will consist of six players and you'll get to play at least two games. If your team finishes third or fourth, you'll take part in a play-off match and the top two teams of each group will go through to the final.

Olympics
Volleyball is one of the top female Olympic team sports so, in the run up to the 2012 Olympics, it seems only sensible that Play Sport London is focusing a spotlight on the sport for women. If you've enjoyed the Just 4 Women Summer Volleyball Festivals and want more volleyball you can go along to open sessions at Whitton Sports and Fitness Centre.

Local Leagues
There are plenty of teams you can join, either in the South London Volleyball League or there are local or regional club teams. It's a great way to make friends, keep fit and have fun. There are several local teams, one at Richmond College, one at Kingston Arena and sessions run every week.

The Just 4 Women Summer Volleyball Festivals take place at Richmond upon Thames College from 7.30pm - 10pm, 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th August 2009. All sessions are free.
