Taking place as part of the Passion for Fashion event, the Kate Middleton dress auction is sure to catch the attention of fans of the soon-to-be-married royal couple. Selling off the dress made famous by Kate during the St Andrews University charity fashion show in 2002, the auction is also putting plenty of other famous pieces of fashion under the hammer.

Kate Middleton dress auction
Designed by Charlotte Todd and worn by Kate Middleton, the dress that caught the eye of Prince William is set to sell for around £10,000 when it is included in the Passion for Fashion sale at La Galleria. Made as part of a project entitled The Art of Seduction, the knitted see through dress is was actually intended to be worn as a skirt, but on seeing it, Kate decided to wear it as a solo piece.

Eye catching design
Renowned for being the moment that Prince William took more of an interest in his now financee, Kate strutted her stuff on the St Andrews University catwalk and caught her future husband by wearing this transparent dress. Certain to go down in history as The Dress that made her a princess, there are sure to be many bidders in London keen to get their hands on this innovative piece of fasshion in the Kate Middle dress auction.

Royal fashions
Also up for sale in the Passion for Fashion event are two dresses owned by Diana, the late Princess of Wales, who would have become Kate Middletons mother in law this April. The first gown also included in the Kate Middleton dress auction is the Zandra Rhodes pink chiffon dinner dress worn by the Princess on an official visit to Japan in 1986. Another dress owned by the former Princess of Wales is a stunning white lace evening gown, designed by Catherine Walker for her state visit to France two years later. Both dresses are set to sell for around £40,000.

The Duchess of Windsor
Yet more royal contributions from the auction come courtesy of the Duchess of Windsor's wardrobe and accessory collection. Despite the majority of her house contents being auctioned by Sotheby's back in 1998, several pieces were held back and these make up the collection of items up for sale in the Kate Middleton dress auction. Featuring several exquisitely made pieces of lingerie, including bias cut nightwear in crepe de chine, chiffon and Chantilly, the sale also sees several designer handbags going under the hammer, with Cartier, Schiaparelli and Christian Dior all in the mix. The accessories owned by the Duchess of Windsor are set to sell for between £300 and £8,000 each.

The Kate Middleton dress auction, as part of the Passion for Fashion event takes place from 2pm on Thursday 17th March 2011 at La Galleria. Viewings take place from 9am - 5pm on Wednesday 16th March and from 9am - 11am on Thursday 17th March 2011. Entrance is free.
