Fantastic location and decor but the food was so hit and miss. We had a Sunday Buffet, the starters were fantastic but the rest of the main Vegetarian and meat was rubbish. How they can justify £30 a head is beyond me we went on 11th March 2012 for a special occasion and was very disappointed.

The waiters were inattentive and some looked so miserable you were a little frighthened to speak to them.

The food was variable, some had ok meals, some had not so nice meals. Mine was really mediocre. I could get better from the local curry take-away.

And for the price - it is so not worth it!

I paid 17.50 for a meal that could just about satisfy a 10 year old and looked like it being cooked by one!

Dont waste your money here. I am sure there are much nicer and better valued Indian restaurants around. If you cant find any, I am sure your local curry house will have much better food for a fraction of the price.

La Port Des Indes...over priced your paying for location and what I can only assume is there previous track record.
Prices's for a simple main dish £17+ and this consited of 5 pieces of chicken in a moderately tasty sauce. Nan breads at £4 each WHY?
My starter of Sheikh Kebab (£7+) appeared to not have been cooked at all when first brought to the table and resembled somthing from the Iceland frezzer store, on getting the waiters attention he looked confused that I dare complain.
2 others within the party of 10 had to return there main dishes as these where cold and the restaurant was not even half full at this time.
The menu itself had a lot of detail but you could get caught out of the set menu at £30 or £37 if you have an item with a symbol next to it or even more.
It was unfortuante as I can imagine in its hayde it was a good place to eat but appears to be relying on its past for customers.
As with other reviewers there are such an abudance of places to eat in London this would not be one I would chose or recommend.
I have had far better indian food from my local.
Expect to pay in excess of £40 per head for a meal which may leave you wishing you had stayed at home and ordered in.

Disappointing. Small portions, over-priced and in all honesty I've had better Indian food from the supermarket. Waiters literally coming out of the woodwork but getting their attention was like trying to flag down a black cab in the snow. Won't be going back.

I went to La Porte des Indes with 2 friends on a Wednesday night and we ordered from the £22 set menu.

The staff were very attentive and polite couldn't do enough. The decor inside the restaurant is stunning with the sound of the waterfall in the background and the beautiful table settings.

The selection from the set menu was excellent. When the food arrived, I was a bit concerned about the size of the portions, however the food is so rich that it turned out they were the right sizes.

It would have been nice to have a larger rice portion though. As we were leaving, I was impressed that when I left the doorman remembered my name from the booking, which was a nice touch.

I would reccommend ordering from the set menu as the a la carte prices are very high.

Not impressed at all, the food was tasteless and the portions were really small. Not value for money at all. Even the decor looks bit dated now. I had a better time in Anokha which is a new bar & restaurant at fenchurch st. We got 50% discount booking through toptable and the food was lovely. So I definitely dont recommend La Port De Indes.

Highly over priced for what it was. The prices were high to pay for the ridiculous outfits the staff were made to wear maybe? I have had a better curry at my local curry house in Brighton

The best, and most stylish Indian restaurant in London by a long way. Fantastic unique decor and highly original dishes. I totally recommend it.

I was expecting something similar to the sister restaurant Blue Elephant. I was disappointed by La Porte des Indes, however the food was good as was the service. They provide entertainment for the kids at La Porte des Indes which was a bonus.

This is what I call Indian cuisine! In fact Indian with a French influence. Dishes and ingredients at La Porte des Indes are incredibly unique and delicious. The La Porte des Indes ballroom-esque interior, tropical plants and first-class service leave you with a memorable experience and one I highly recommend.

There's nothing really wrong with La Porte des Indes or the food but you do feel like you are an ingredient for a sausage machine. It's a quick in and quick out, nice enough food but nothing special for about £60 per head. Don't go to La Porte des Indes, go to Bombay Palace down the road.

We went to La Porte des Indes for a family birthday party, just the four of us. My parents were visiting London from Eastern Europe and were absolutely gobsmacked by the interior and the staff's politeness. The decor is truly magnificent and, if you are going to book the table, sit next to the waterfall.



Honestly speaking, the entrance doesn't really look that grand, but I suppose this is one of those places where you get excited by going deep inside the restaurant and expecting more and more things to be fascinated about. Palm trees, exotic flowers and authentic staff do make you feel like you are in India, which was what we all wanted.



Regarding the prices, four of us had the 2-4-1 offer (you can select from the vegetarian or non menus). We had the non-vegetarian menu, which included three courses plus a glass of house wine or beer each. The cocktails are fantastic, quite pricey though - £8.50 for alcoholic and £6.50 for non. Our total came up to £120 with a generous £10 tip from us, as it was a truly fantastic experience. I definitely will come back for Sunday Jazz lunch at La Porte des Indes!

I have been eating at Les Porte des Indes for a couple of years now and it has become a firm favorite of my father and I who I would describe as curry addicts. The menu has not changed a huge amount over the years but is varied and includes something for everyone. The dishes and the breads are delicious but the cocktails overpriced. I strongly suggest that you order off the menu and avoid the buffet if possible as well. The decoration is superb and large enough to accommodate you without booking. The service can sometimes be lacking but otherwise I would recommend La Porte des Indes to all Indian food lovers.

If you're looking for spicy tasty food then avoid La Porte des Indes at all costs. My partner and I booked this place for a birthday celebration and were sadly disappointed. Our starters (Pakora & Chicken Tikka) were as bland as cardboard and the same applied to our main courses of Chicken Tikka Masala and King Prawn curry, both dishes were supposed to be hot but didn't even border on the mild! When I asked for spicy pickle or chutney to liven it up the waiter looked at me blankly and suggested a vague sauce which never materialized.

Another annoying thing at La Porte des Indes was the mixture of smoking and non-smoking, the couple next to us thought they were chimney's and were smoking for England, very inconsiderate! La Porte des Indes has to be one of the worst places I've ever had the misfortune of eating in, it's stuck in a weird time warp, maybe their formula worked a few years ago but it badly needs updating - our local curryhouse would give their chefs a run for their money any day. Extremely bland boring food, avoid at all costs.

La Porte des Indes is nowhere even close to it's sister restaurent The Blue Elephant. Just in case you were pondering whether this was a marque of quality and a contemporary eating environment.

Had to wait about half and hour for my table despite reservation, in 'The Jungle Bar' - a shabby room with a mural and a few bamboo poles that doubles as a bar. Monkey nut shells from the complimentary bowls litter the floor and cocktails are served unfashionably late after the order is placed. Although very tasty when they finally arrive.

The dining area at La Porte des Indes is very unique with the glass atrium/marble stairs/fountain but I guess you can only appreciate it if you luck out and sit somewhere in the thick of the action. Which I did. And hence appreciated it.

Food was average contemporary Indian fare, quite tasty and definitely a unique menu, but not as taste-bud-bustingly wow as you are expecting. And a little chilly. The scallop starter has what can only be described as a nouveau-minging yellow sauce, so avoid.

Service is average but better than at the bar. Decor outside of the restaurant/bar area is worn and tired and not as thoughtful as it should really. It's pricey too.

Conclusion: La Porte des Indes is an upmarket curry house but not an upmarket restaurant.

La Porte des Indes is absolutely stunning and has food and service to match. The parsee fish is a magnificently subtle and light dish steamed in a banana leaf and a great prelude to the pork vindaloo that had just the right amount of heat so as not to hide the flavours of the individual spices.

Don't miss La Porte des Indes!

I had the most glamorous curry of my life in La Porte des Indes. I wafted through the luxurious surroundings and reclined at my table amidst the lap of luxury.

It was an Indian restaurant though, so hopefully I didn't waft too much when I finally left La Porte des Indes stuffed to the gills.
