The Late Shift at National Portrait Gallery invites you to take a wander around the gallery after dark and enjoy live music, entertainment, talks, tours and even art workshops.
Late Shift at National Portrait Gallery
Taking place every Thursday and Friday night, visitors to the gallery can expect a fantastic range of arty events to keep them off the streets or out of the pub, with late night access to the current exhibitions and invitations to hear from a variety of experts on portraits in the collection. And for those that can't bear the thought of making it through Thursday or Friday night without a cocktail or two, the Late Shift Bar in the Main Hall will be open until 8.15pm.
Regular events
Along with a changing programme of themes and activities, regular lectures and classes take place, so that you can plan your Late Shift at National Portrait Gallery accordingly. Thursday nights have lectures, talks or exhibition tours taking place from 7pm, and a guest DJ will be bringing the main hall to life. Friday night is the time to enjoy live music, ranging from chamber, folk and jazz to contemporary from 6.30pm.
Variation on a theme
Every month the Late Shift at National Portrait Gallery features a new theme inspired by the current exhibitions or taken from the collection itself. With a huge variety of subjects on offer, there is bound to be something to get excited about, whether you are into Indian art, photography or history.
Museums at Night
For May 2012, the Late Shift is putting on an extra special evening for Museums at Night. Head to the gallery for a night of activities inspired by the Lucian Freud: Portraits exhibition, including music, poetry, life drawing sessions, tours and live peformances. The Late Shift Extra event takes place from 6pm - 10pm, Friday 18th May 2012.
Late Shift at National Portrait Gallery takes place from 6pm - 9pm every Thursday and Friday evening. While many drop in events are free, some are ticketd and must be booked in advance. Please note that exhibition tickets are still full price on Late Shift evenings.
