Lates London

When

June 2008

Where

Various London museums and art galleries plus other cultural venues

In celebration of London’s cultural prowess and vibrant nightlife, many of the city’s favourite artistic institutions come together for Lates London, a late night season of cultural events at the capital’s major art galleries and museums offering an alternative to pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs. With a month of exciting exhibitions, film screenings, performances and live music shows available throughout June, Lates London looks set to be one of the year’s real highlights.

Late nights in London
Many potential visitors to London’s many cultural events are simply unable to visit during the normal exhibition times, as they often unfortunately coincide with working hours. However, the extended opening hours that the Lates season offers gives Londoners a chance to see the fantastic array of artistic events that the city offers. And even if you’re just a night owl, the Lates season offers a seductive alternative to the same old bars and pubs that you’ve been going to for years. What’s more, many places are offering delicious cocktail and drink evenings so you don’t even have to miss out on your favourite tipple.

Not just clubs
Indeed, it’s the changing of the licensing laws that has created a cultural shift where more people are developing an appetite for later entertainment, and Lates London is keen to tap into that. So if you’re just out for dinner, or even on a date, a trip to a gallery or to see a late night film screening could be just the thing to finish off your evening perfectly. And with the wealth of events that are on offer at Lates London over June, there really should be something for everyone. Some of the most important and well respected institutions are taking part, including Barbican, British Museum, National Gallery, Tate Modern, BFI IMAX and many more, so you can expect the very best in culture and late night entertainment.

Stay up late for culture
Don’t be put off by what you might see as merely arty-farty exhibitions as there really is a diverse range of events on offer. You can expect to find everything from the British Museum’s celebration of Independence Day on 4th July to the late night Solstice sessions of summer cinema at ICA on 21st June. Other highlights of Lates London include a Regency Evening at the Victoria and Albert Museum, where you can find your own Mr Darcy on the dance floor: RAdical Night at the National Gallery which celebrates the opening of the Radical Light exhibition; an all night session of The Matrix at the BFI IMAX.

There really is a superb range of events on offer and Lates London looks set to be yet another excellent example of London’s impressive cultural scene.
