Decamping from Trafalgar Square to take over the South Bank this September, the Liberty Festival at National Theatre is packed full of deaf and disabled artists taking part in a dizzying array of live performances.

Disabled arts festival
With some of the country's leading dance and circus companies taking part in the Liberty Festival at National Theatre, you can look forward to a programme of innovative street theatre, music and acrobatic displays. The annual festival acts as a platform for spectacular new work by deaf and disabled artists, and alongside the performances on Theatre Square outside the National Theatre, there are also events taking place at the Southbank Centre.

Music and dance
Highlights of the Liberty Festival at National Theatre include Wheels on Broadway, a new show inspired by musical theatre from the UK's foremost power wheelchair dance troupe, Graeae's Rhinestone Rollers. There are also stunning circus performances from Cirque Nova, a troupe consisting of disabled performers who use character work, aerial skills and acrobalance to demonstrate the liberating potential of circus.

Free outdoors events
Also appearing at the Liberty Festival at National Theatre is the StopGAP Dance Company, as well as Deaf Men Dancing. There's also a new street theatre work, In Search of Master Juba, which uses drums, clogs and street dance to tell the story of William Henry Lane, described by Charles Dickens as the world's greatest dancer.

Liberty Festival at National Theatre takes place from 1pm - 10pm, Saturday 3rd September 2011. Admission is free.
