Lily Parr Lesbian Football Cup

The Lily Parr Lesbian Football Cup is the match that honours lesbian footballer Lily Parr, and takes place at Regents Park as part of the LGBT history month.

The two teams taking part in the Lily Parr lesbian football cup are the London Lesbian Kickabout team and FC Paris Arc en Ciel.

Lily Parr was a footballer from the 1920s who lived openly with her partner Mary in Preston, and is one of only two women in the UK Football National Hall of Fame. She played at Goodison Park in front of a 53,000 capacity crowd, with 14,000 spectators turned away, and she played in front of thousands at St James' Park and Maine Road. Her team had to turn down 120 invitations to play in one season alone.

Lily Parr was on the side that played in the first recognised womens international football match between England and France, which was held in the UK. Women were banned from playing football initially in 1921, and it wasn't until 1971 that the FA overturned the ruling and women were allowed to once again play on FA affiliated grounds.

The Lily Parr lesbian football cup match will relive the match played by footballer Lily and is the second game of many international matches to be held in her name and honour.

The match will take place at The Hub in Regents Park.
