Liminal exhibition at Rivington Place
Providing art lovers with a different perspective on city life and urban living, the Liminal exhibition at Rivington Place contains work from 20 artists. The show aims to help you explore what it means to live in a city, and encourages visitors to engage in the installations which frequently use digital media, motion sensors, animation and electronic music.
Frictions of distance
One possible highlight of the Liminal exhibition at Rivington Place is the Frictions of Distance installation by Che-Guevara John and Phillippe Chollet. A collaborative effort between Rivington Place and the French Cultural Centre in Cambodia, visitors walking through both spaces will have their movements tracked by motion sensors, which will then project their footsteps onto the floor of the other venue. This means that you can literally walk in the steps of someone in Phnom Penh without taking your feet out of London.
Wall Ball
Another interactive element in the Liminal art exhibtion comes courtesy of the Wall Ball installation. Throw a ball against one of the many computerised panels that make up a giant composite face, and by using both your skill and memory you can change each screen to complete the mosaic.
London Underground
Taking its inspiration from everyday landscape and experience, the London Underground work turns the familiar sounds of the London Underground into electronic music and electromagnetic imagery. Video and animation experiments and digital technology are also used throughout the show.
The Liminal exhibition at Rivington Place runs from Wednesday 11th March - Saturday 25th April 2009. Gallery opening times are 11am - 6pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 11am - 9pm on late Thursdays, and 12pm - 6pm on Saturdays. Admission is free.
