The Little Black Dress exhibition celebrates the history of the LBD and showcases some of the most amazing examples of this versatile and simple fashion staple. A must have piece of clothing for any woman's wardrobe, the Little Black Dress exhibition looks at the history of the dress from the 1920s to the present day, and undergoes various transformations at the hands of designers.

Over 60 garments will be on display in the Little Black Dress exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum over the summer, with contributions from the likes of Jean Muir, Julien Macdonald, Christopher Kane and Amanda Wakely amongst others. All collected and curated by Andrew Fionda of the label Pearce Fionda, there will no doubt be many amazing dresses in show in the exhibition.

From 1926 when Coco Chanel first showcased a simple black jersey dress that the press claimed would be as popular as Henry Ford's cars, to the present take on the little black dress that every woman relies on at some point or another, the LBD has become a style icon in its own right. With plenty of historical examples to highlight how the shape of the little black dress has changed over the years, and personal contributions from many celebrities, it is easy to see just how important a style item the dress has become.

Bringing the Little Black Dress exhibition right up to date, the museum features twenty of Britain's leading designers' takes on the dress so that you can really see what all the fuss is still about. English Eccentric's laser cut Snowflake dress and the Mario Schwab Stone Age Dress are just two of the cutting edge versions of the little black dress that you will see at the exhibition, and most probably at a cocktail party at some point in the future too.

If fashion really is your thing, then the Little Black Dress exhibition is a must see experience. Giving yourself the chance to get back to your roots and find out just why the LBD is as stylish as ever, the sheer variety of LBDs on show at the Fashion and Textile Museum will reassure you that this is one fashion item that is very definitely here to stay.

The Little Black Dress exhibition is on show at the Fashion and Textile Museum until the 25th August 2008.
