If you have ever wandered through one of London’s beautiful green spaces and seen an unused band stand, then the good news is that the live music at London Parks scheme, featuring a range of community brass bands, will bring noise and life back to these often neglected locations.

Brass Bands
There’s so much live music at London Parks these days that you can take your pick from sounds as varied as international superstar DJs, stadium-sized rock bands, classical orchestras and everything in-between. The music on offer at these events is of the brass band variety and there’s been resurgence in interest in this style of music in recent years, with the likes of the British film Brassed Off giving it some Hollywood gloss, and bands like Young Blood Brass Band opening it up to a whole new audience.

Battle of the Bands
Many of the bands providing the music this summer are award-winning ensembles. The one thing that may surprise you is the mix of young and old musicians that play in the bands. Not all of them come from London, either. They’re travelling from as far away as Portishead (near Bristol) to take part.

Royal Seal of Approval
There are three parks taking part in the live music at London parks showcases: St James’s Park, Kensington Gardens and Greenwich Park. The band stand at St James’s is near to Marlborough Gate and it is here that the bands will assemble to play marches, overtures, jazz, classical and more up-to-date covers of film soundtracks. At Greenwich Park you will find the band stand off Great Cross Avenue, where the Cobham and Wantage bands will be providing the music.

Free Events
One of the best things about the live music at London parks is that you can turn up and enjoy the show for free. With no admission fee, you can make a day of it with family and friends by packing a blanket and a picnic and relaxing in one of London’s lovely green parks for the day.
