New Australian cinema
Now in its 17th year, the London Australian Film Festival has established itself as a premier showcase of Australian cinema. This year’s festival includes many feature productions, giving film fans a chance to enjoy the latest in contemporary Australian filmmaking.

Oranges and Sunshine
Highlights of the 2011 festival include a screening of Oranges and Sunshine by Jim Loach, starring Emily Watson, Hugo Weaving and David Wenham. This hard hitting drama follows the true life story of Margaret Humphreys, a social worker from Nottingham who uncovered the huge scandal of children deported from the UK to Australia. Opening gala
Get the chance to see the very best Australian cinema has to offer at the festival's opening gala. Red Dog is an adaption of Louis de Bernieres bestselling novel about a nomadic sheepdog that becomes famous after it unites locals in a rough mining town during the 1970s. A warm and humorous tale that makes the most of the landscape of the Australian outback, Red Dog is introduced by actor Noah Taylor at the London Australian Film Festival screening.

AFI winners at the Barbican
A number of Australian Film Institute winners are screening in London as part of this year's festival. The multi award winning Beneath Hill 60 takes a closer look at the story that dramatically changed the course of the First World War, while Tomorrow, When the War Began stars Rachel Hurd-Wood, Caitin Stasey and Lincoln Lewis as a group of high school kids trapped in a war zone.

Closing film
The grand finale of the London Australian Film Festival for 2011 is a special screening of Jucy, a quirky comedy following the lives and loves of best friends Jackie and Lucy in Brisbane. Film lovers can also look forward to Q&A sessions and special appearances from many of the directors and actors with films at the festival.

The London Australian Film Festival takes place at the Barbican from Thursday 5th May - Thursday 12th May 2011.
