Celebrating the 800th anniversary of the opening of London's famous bridge, the 2009 London Bridge Fair sees the iconic landmark closed to traffic for the day, so that families, kids, and revellers can make the most of this day long festival.

London Bridge Fair
With all the pagentry of a traditional fayre, the London Bridge Fair will feature a day of activities, live performances, and special events to give festival goers a taste of what London must have been like when London Bridge first opened 800 years ago. A variety of City Livery Companies will be demonstrating their traditional skills and wares on the day, including the Basketmaker's Company and the Makers of Playing Cards' Company.

Live entertainment
In keeping with the traditional feel to the London Bridge Fair events, Liverymen and Freemen of the City of London will have the chance to claim their ancient right to drive sheep toll free across the bridge, guided by expert shepherdess Katy Cropper from One Man and His Dog. The Lord Mayor's bodyguards, the Pikemen and Musketeers will parade on the day.

Family fun
As well as the spectacle of real life sheep tottering along the bridge in place of the usual cars and motorbikes, the anniversary fayre and traffic free day will have plenty of other child friendly entertainment. Admission to the event is free, but any money raised through donations will go to the Lord Mayor's Appeal and the two nominated charities, St John Ambulance London and The Lord's Taverners.

The London Bridge Fair takes place from 10am - 4pm, Saturday 11th July 2009. Admission is free.
