London Film Festival Screen Talks

When

Friday 21st and Sunday 23rd October 2011

Where

National Film Theatre

Exclusive to this year’s London Film Festival are a number of special Screen Talks sponsored by American Express, featuring a selection of film and cinema guest speakers.

London Film Festival Screen Talks - Alexander Payne
Join an audience with Alexander Payne, one of the most directors from a maverick group of filmmakers that emerged in the 1990s. Renowned for creating charaters such as Reese Witherspoon's Tracy Flick in Election and Jack Nicholson' in About Schmidt, he also won great critical acclaim for his 2004 film Sideways, about a man refusing to realise that he's in the middle of a mid life crisis.

Alexander Payne's latest film, and the first since Sideways, tells the tale of a man (played by George Cloooney) who attempts to make up to his two daughters for not being much of a father to them. The Descendants will feature at the London Film Festival this year, and is one of the most eagerly anticipated film screenings of the 2011 programme.

See Alexander Payne at the London National Film Theatre at 6.30pm on Friday 21st October 2011.

London Film Festival Screen Talks - Michael Winterbottom
Celebrated British director Michaell Winterbottom will stage a Screen Talk at the London Film Festival, discussing his career to date and his latest big-screen ventures. Having made 18 films over the past 15 years, he is certainly one of the most profilic directors around, but he also has a reputation for being one of the most eclectic and creative. Covering subjects such as war, relationships, and tricky literary adaptations, his works constantly seek to challenge established opinion.

Bringing his latest work Trishna to the 2011 festival, he will talk about his transportation of Tess of the d'Ubervilles to modern day India, and his film career to date. Trishna is due to show at the London Film festival this year as a gala screening.

See Michael Winterbottom at the London National Film Theatre at 4pm on Sunday 23rd October 2011.
