The London Futures exhibition at the Museum of London takes a look into the future and shows you just what kind of changes may happen to the capital if climate change continues.

London Futures exhibition
Liek snapshots from the future, the London Futures exhibition brings to life familar scenes from across the city, but with a few significant changes. Capturing the dramatic effects of global warming, food scarcity and rising sea levels, the futuristic images demonstrate the kind of changes Londoners may have to make if they want to survive.

Dramatic changes
Created by illustrators Robert Graves and Didier Madoc-Jones the images on show at the Museum of London are like postcards from the future. Various famous London locations are depicted transformed by the need for more food, rising water levels or a shortage of housing so that Parliament Square appears as a rice field, Piccadilly Circus is home to giant water lillies and several feet of water, and the Gherkin is full of refugees from flooding in the London Futures exhibition.

Digital art
Cleverly enhanced photos tell the story of the imaginary situation for each London location, but the aim behind these digitally altered pictures is to make people think of the potential reality of the situation. By changing the scenes with flooded streets, palm trees or massive wind turbines in such a convincing fashion, the story of the area is changed irrevocably in your mind.

Environmental impact
Forcing the viewer to confront the serious impact that climate change is making to the world, the London Futures exhibition is a clever and dramatic look at the effects that all human activity is having. Prompting questions about adaptability and survival, the images should have serious impact on anyone who understands the nature of global warming.

The London Futures exhibition takes place from 10am - 6pm from Friday 1st October 2010 - Sunday 6th March 2011 at the Museum of London. Entrance is free.
