The 2009 London Jazz Festival returns for another year of thrilling live performances, eclectic world music and exclusive guest appearances, during a huge line up of events, shows and performances. Get involved and celebrate the best of world jazz at a premiere London music event, in association with BBC Radio 3. World music at the London Jazz Festival
The London Jazz Festival brings a selection of the world’s finest contemporary jazz artists to the heart of London in a first class music event. Music lovers in London will have the opportunity to enjoy live performances from a diverse range of artists, spanning everything from brassy big band numbers to more intimate solo performances. Musicians from across the globe will feature at the festival, in what promises to be an eclectic showcase of contemporary music. All these events will take place at a variety of venues throughout London, details of which can be found below. Please note that the full programme of events and venues has yet to be confirmed.

Jazz highlights
With a string of acclaimed artists taking part in the festival, there will be various highlights for all tastes in addition to many highly anticipated performances. Highlights include a performance by legendary saxophonist Sonny Rollins at the Barbican. One musician who will no doubt have jazz fans salivating in anticipation will be John Surman, who will be playing to celebrate his 65th birthday at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Special events
The 2009 programme includes a selection of special events in addition to live music performances. There will be a real mix of events this year with collaborations between artists, special commissions, education projects and more, all taking place in London during November. And if you really can't make it then there'll be select bits and bobs broadcast online and on air.

A world of music
Artists from all over the world will be on hand with exclusive festival performances, with highlights including music from Cleo Laine, Dave Holland, and Bill Frisell with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Jazz fans can catch world class performances from musicians hailing from Europe, Africa, America and beyond. Tickets are in steep demand for a chance to enjoy the cream of world jazz at a selection of select London venues.
