A race for the history books
In 2006 the marathon saw a number of improvements designed to make the race faster for elite runners and more comfortable in general. Combined, these changes have reduced marathon race times by over 45 seconds for elite runners.
The Virgin London Marathon takes place on Sunday 21st April 2013, starting at Greenwich Park. Spectators are welcome to watch the race from anywhere along the race route.
The race begins from 9am - 9.45am at Greenwich, with the fastest runners expected at St James's Park at around 11am.
