London New York Bristol is an exhibition on show at Mount Street Galleries that brings you the best of modern art from home and across the Atlantic. With many famous artists featuring in the exhibition, and contemporary work from several London artists, there is plenty to get excited about.

London and New York are both renowned for contributing major artists to the modern art scene from the 50s upwards, and so it is no surprise to see these major cities in the title of an exhibition. Bristol however, has garnered much less of a reputation for modern art - until recently that is.

Banksy is the one artist that seems to be putting Bristol well and truly on the global art map, with his paintings and screen prints selling for hundreds of thoudsands all around the world. Featuring in the London New York Bristol exhibition, you can see more of Banksy's work on display along with some other great modern artists.

One of the artists representing New York is the godfather of modern art, Andy Warhol. A great influence on all modern art since the sixties, Warhol's work has been copied, imitated and sympathetically redesigned all over the world by hundreds of different artists and designers. His Marilyn Monroe series of brightly coloured screen prints were only recently copied by Banksy, but the Bristol born artist used supermodel and 21st century fashion icon Kate Moss instead.

Last but decidedly not least, London is the third city to provide some great art for the London New York Bristol exhibition. Three enfants terribles of the modern art world are the most famous names to come out of the city, as work by Damien Hirst and the Chapman Brothers is on display in London New York Bristol at Mount Street Galleries. Damien Hirst seemed to really shock the art world and the jewellery world last summer with his £15 million platinum and diamond encrusted skull, while Jake and Dinos Chapman have recreated their surreal and some would say distasteful "Hell" installation for White Cube this summer, the first one having been burnt beyond repair in a warehouse fire.

Other artists representing their artistic cities in London New York Bristol are Jean Michel Basquiat who worked in New York in the eighties and collaborated with Andy Warhol; Louise Bourgeois who spilt her working life between New York and London, and donated the giant spider to the Tate Modern earlier this year; Grayson Perry the cross dressing potter who won the Turner Prize in 2003; and Peter Doig who studied in London during the 1970s and who is renowned for his inimitable oil paintings of Trinidad.

The London New York Bristol exhibition is on show at the Mount Street Galleries until 12th July 2008 and is admission is free. Please note that visitation is by appointment only.
