Covering the last May bank holiday weekend, Long Weekend at Tate Modern sees the enormous gallery space full of exhibitions, talks, workshops, live music, films and childrens activities all celebrating the dynamism of art within the UK.

2009 Long Weekend at Tate Modern
With interactive sculptures from Robert Morris, Bach cello performances to accompany work by Janis Kounellis, a specially commissioned performance pice by Paola Pivi and the opportunity to explore the post-minimalist and Arte Povera art in the gallery's Energy and Process collection, the Long Weekend at Tate Modern is set to a be a brilliant exploration of the arts and an interactive experience for all who visit.

Climb on the art
On show throughout the weekend in the Turbine Hall, a sculpture installation by Robert Morris will be available to clamber over and climb on. Emphasising the 2009 Long Weekend's theme of Do It Yourself, you can literally become a part of the art and immerse yourself in the sculpture and exhibitions in the Turbine Hall.

Music and film
Also taking place as part of the Long Weekend at Tate Modern events are a series of live performances and film screenings. Experimental Italian films from the 1960s and 70s will be on show from 3pm on Saturday 23rd May, and you can also listen to work from Avant garde composer Luigi Nono on Level 5 throughout the weekend as well.

Events for kids and families
Throughout the long weekend various activities are set up for kids and families to take part in so they get to experience art hands on. Exploring the weekend's theme of post-minimalist art and Arte Povera, the House of Fairytales will have a travelling library, and children will also be able to take part in maypole dancing, sewing, drawing workshops, and much, much more.

The Long Weekend at Tate Modern takes place over the spring bank holiday weekend, from Friday 22nd May - Monday 25th May 2009. Opening hours are 10am - 10pm Friday and Saturday, and 10am - 6pm Sunday and Monday. The events are free to attend.
