Nice interior and not bad drinks but the attitude of the staff, especially the woman at the door ruins it. She was downright rude and stuck-up despite us having made a booking and the place being sleepy at best. We tried to order drinks at the bar but was told that they don't take orders and we would have to find a waitress which was ridiculous.
Had fun with friends there on the 12/05 but this was in-spite of, not because of the venue and its staff. We had booked an area for 20 to celebrate my partners birthday. Staff were insincere , rude and more concerned with their appearance and attitude than actually doing the job they were being paid to do. There are many more venues where the cocktails are better and the staff more friendly. The cake I pre ordered from their kitchen for my partners birthday was tasteless unimaginative and dry. We wont be returning nor will our 25 guests or any of their friends On a positive note the security gaurd was charming.
I recently came here for cocktails and sushi with a group of girl friends. The atmosphere was very decadent, and the staff were helpful and polite, and we LOVED the cocktails. They were all very unique and delicately balanced and although we tried hard to drink our way through the extensive menu, there was just too much variety and choice- which means we'll definitely be coming back. Ooh the sushi was very moreish too and just the thing for sharing, as we were not after a heavy meal.
What an awful experience. Massively over-priced for average food. Had the tasting menu which was so shockingly small we had to order further dishes and still left hungry.
Service really really bad - had to ask and chase everything from indifferent staff more concerned with maintaining an "attitude" than showing any interest in serving people. Decor so predictable at trying to be different it ended up just being rubbish.
Would only recommend to people I dislike. Star rating one because I couldn't give a zero.
The service was so cold that I still shiver! the blonde plated waitress served us with a condescendant look and hardly smiled! we felt very uncomfortable to be there. so when we had to pay £12 for tips I had it hard. I thought for a while not to pay but the waitress look when she understood I wasn't happy paying it, scared me!
We very much liked the duck and seabass from the degustation menu as it was very tasty and cooked very nicely but find the sushi just ok (maybe because we had been at a japenese cooking class the day before). I do think the japenese degustation menu is really nice.
I really enjoyed the decor but my friend find it pretentious.
Overall, due to the frozen service we don't think we will try again!
The best welcome you can expect in such a wonderful cocktail bar thanks to Stuart. Still Amazing cocktails you will find nowhere else in town
we went there for dessert and cocktails on a wednesday: amazing venue with a great choice of cocktails. The service was a bit distanced and stressed but still very friendly. Apparently they ran out of spoons so they brought us chinese/japanese soup spoons for our cake - was very weird but they replaced them when asked for forks at least. Otherwise a really nice place, always worth a stop-over for some drinks and to meet friends.
Been to the bar on Saturday night for a friend's private party.
We had the venue exclusively for us.
Such a beautiful place.
The canapes were great and we got offered even a late snight snack :)
Drinks are the most exclusive in town.
Can't wait to book a party for myself; it seems they book semiprivate areas as well.
Will definitely go back soon
in love with Loungelover
Great food, really enjoyed the tasting menu, my compliments to the chef and awesome drinks too. I really enjoyed the sorbet cocktails.
Service was casual and professional, this was my first experience and definitely not the last.
I really want to try all the cocktails and the tempura prawns were superb, I can still taste it!
Lovely waitress and the door team were super helpful with directions to our next place which was also a great find.
See you when we're back in London.
The inside of the bar is pretty and unique but staff are very rude, unhelpful and treat their customers very badly. Prices are expensive. I would avoid this place at all costs.
Superb food, this place has some of the best sushi I've tasted. Everything that we had was perfect. I had a great time and our waitress was extremely helpful with the drinks selection. I had an Eight of Hearts which was a slightly spicy but perfect with the food.
I'll be back again soon. Thank you Loungelover
Yes - the venue looks cool but that's where it ends. Staff - cold. The food was very average for the price. The wine-list (less than ten bottles and cheapest at £22) a joke. Cocktails over-priced (£11 for a martini? Come on! It's just chilled vodka/gin with some vermouth!)
In summary, nice decor but rediculously pretentious and un-accommodating staff.
The place was empty except two tables each with a couple on. We were put on one of these tables, but when I asked to sit at an empty one (we had booked a table in advance!) we were told all tables were for sharing.
This is fine if the place was full, but it wasn't, it was empty. I asked to move to an empty table again, with both me and my girlfriend and the other couple uncomfortable with these silly arrangements. We were told all tables were booked so we couldn't move.
We stayed for approx. 1.5hrs and when leaving, only one other table now had people sitting there, so we could have quite easily sat at another table and enjoyed our overpriced cocktails comfortably.
Avoid!
I visited Loungelover for the first time in years on the weekend. I wish I hadn't been away for so long. My favourite cocktail is still on the menu and the nice waitress suggested some of the new summer cocktails. the names of the cocktails are all very quirky and makes you wonder who comes up with this stuff.
If you haven't been for a while, you're missing out, the service is friendly, informative and very relaxed. This bar is back on my favourite list.
If I lived closer I'd visit more often, there are no other cocktail bars like this anywhere else with such amazing drinks.
See you soon Loungelover.
I have visited Lounge Lover many times over the pasts years so when thinking of a venue for some cocktails to celebrate a 30th birthday it was the first place that sprang to mind although after tonight's experience it will now be the last.
After ordering our drinks we were having a lovely time until I felt something that was not ice in my drink. I pulled this out of my mouth to find it was a shard of glass. Concerned that this could have caused a large amount of damage if gone unnoticed I approached the waitress who quite uninterested questioned if this was just ice. After showing her that not it was indeed glass all that was said was that my drink would be replaced. In shock after the lack of concern from the staff I went back to our table. My Partner who was not happy with this situation approached the manager who as did the waitress was not interested in the glass that was found saying "we have not broken any glasses recently".
Only after I said we wanted the bill and that i was going to be posting this review was the price of the drink and service charge was removed as a gesture which was unfortunately to late to rectify the situation.
Overall I would not attend Lounge Lover for any occasion as clearly after tonight's shambles the staff are not interested in creating the best experience for their occupants. Very disappointed and will not be visiting again.
I visited this bar with friends this weekend and I can quite honestly say it is one of the worst places I have been to. The staff are beyond rude and appear to think they are above their customer. It is overpriced and over-hyped and I really objected to the service charge on our bill as it was not deserved. Having read some of the other reviews on here I wish we had done so before the weekend as we would not have wasted our time/money.
We went to Lounge Lover after an amazing dinner at Les Trois Garcons and were real glad that we did that as the glamour and fun continued for us. The vibe is quite different as its much bigger than the restaurant and there must have been about 300 people there. The crowd was really nice and friendly, i think the place lends itself to people being amicable and happy. What is there to be upset about, the music, service drinks and atmosphere was great. I can imagine if you had not booked and had to stand at the bar you might not be so happy but hey, just be organised and book ahead. The vibe here encourages you to make friends with other people around you. Its actually more like going on holiday than being in a cocktail bar in London. Great evening and hoping to do the same again soon.
I would say that it would be very difficult to find anywhere else with such atmosphere and such a great cocktail list. Delicious concoctions that i have never tasted before. Between the 8 of us we tried quite a large number of cocktails and we were equally impressed with most of them except one of them which i found a little tart but thats my preference as i am not very good with sour drinks.
The room was full of wonderful artefacts and people to match it. I have never been anywhere where you can find so many types of people under one roof. Its not like most the generic bars you find in London. The age group was very varied, i guess some of them were on the way to the restaurant next door as some of the clients looked liked they are from Mayfair or Knightsbridge. The mix is really fun.
The music was suitably eclectic too, not the mainstream lounge music. The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive even though it was really busy. A place to bring your friends if you want to impress them about your knowledge of london.
I really can't believe what these people are writing - they surely must have been paid by Loungelover or perhaps they work there?
This bar is by far and away the most over-priced and over-rated place that I have been to lately - with rude, obnoxious staff thrown in for good measure who obviously believe their own (self-written?) hype. One star on here is by far too generous.
There are much better places in London to spend your hard earned money - I suggest you look for them rather than waste it here.
Never fail to impress!!!! I am a huge fan of Loungelover. I went for a drink with a group of guests on Friday 26th February, it was really busy but they still delivered outstanding cocktails and a brilliant service. The decor is fantastic, like no other places; I entertain a lot of clients for business and i am never disappointed. Some of my guests are now regular guests of Loungelover. WELL DONE to the whole team : KEEP GOING!!!!
A really enjoyable evening, a special place for special occasions. The decor is truly unusual and you feel transported to another era and another country although it would be very difficult to pinpoint which period or country as there are so many different elements there.
The cocktails are so delicious and strong,at first you don't taste the alcohol as the cocktails are so flavoursome and than you become merry very quickly as they don't skim on the spirits!
Between the 7 of us we shared an assortment of very yummy dishes. We had to reorder more as we were fighting amongst ourselves as plates were devoured as soon as they touched the table.
The music was really different not the usual that you hear in all the bars. The level was just right so that we could still carry on talking without having to scream at the top of our voices. The music really added to the vibe of Lounge Lover.
The staff were very hospitable and knowledgeable. They really were so helpful in the cocktail selection as there were so many to choose from but they pointed us in the right direction, we just had to tell them what flavours we liked.
Overall, probably the best bar experience we have had in a while.
Will be recommending it to all my other friends.
I had the best birthday party ever here last week. My friends were so impressed that i chose Loungelover, they all said that they have never been anywhere so cool. We had really amazing cocktails and i don't know how the barmen kept up with our demands as we went through litres of cocktails. The barmen managed really well and we didn't have to wait very long for the drinks.
I am just glad i had plenty of the very tasty canapes before i was coerced into drinking the numerous cocktails. Its the best party i have ever been to even though its my own 30th birthday party, anyway all my friends still haven't stopped thanking me for the evening. The staff coped really well with our whims and fancies. If i could afford it i would hire Loungelover on a more frequent basis. Thanks to all concerned for making my evening special.
Rude, abrupt and outrageous treatment of customers. I booked a table at Loungelover for Friday night for my birthday and was eating at the restaurant later. I should have known by the frosty reception from the frontdesk that it was a sign things were not going to go well, she said we had no reservation and despite my saying we were booked also to go next door and had a table for six she ignored this and sat us in on the left, which was felt like a waiting area as people came and went. We were refused a table for six despite the place being half empty and when it came to our final round of drinks, after several bottles of champagne, we were confronted by the woman from reception who told us we had to "drink them at the bar or leave"! I refused to stand at the bar and she replied "you have four minutes left at the table" threw us a look and marched off.
The person who calls himself a General Manager was unhelpful, did not listen to our complaint nor apologise and instead we cancelled our cocktails and I paid the bill for a dose of humiliation from bad manners staff who really do not deserve to work in the hospitality industry. DO NOT GO TO LOUNGE LOVER, it is not worth paying to be treated with contempt by these people. It was a good place once, many years ago. I hope the recession brings this place what it deserves.
Never go to Loungelover! Unfriendly staff! They pretend to be something they are not. Loungelover is receiving many low ratings these days. The atmosphere is pretentious! Many better bars in Londonnote: ***lounge lover do not do tables for 2- you will have to share with other people***
Absolute s****! We booked here for my sister's birthday. They mixed up the booking and put us in a really rubbish seats- the room resembled a gold coffin. When I complained, they said we would have to pay up front to sit in another area. What kind of desperadoes would be prepared to do that and when I refused they looked down their nose at me. Did they think I was born yesterday? Loungelover is all aboutt the money and extracting the largest possible sums from it's gullible punters (who are no longer the glitterati, no, they moved on to greener pastures many years ago).
It was unbearably hot and the service was virtually non-existant despite being charged for at a hefty price. There were a lot of bored-looking people sitting around drinking their overpriced cocktails. The final straw came when I was asked to enter my pin in the card-reader. I entered it 3 times until I pointed out that they were charging my drinks on somebody else's card! Poor person's card was blocked. Absolutely unforgivable and frankly very fishy. I had left my card behind the bar (as they insist) and regret it. I do not trust these people.
I'm attempting to be fair- the decor is quite nice, in fact the only nice thing abou the place. There are far better places to drink in Shoreditch with friendlier staff and more atmosphere (granted, this would not be hard). Avoid.
A terrible Shoreditch establishment.
The manager was rude, the drinks overpriced, and they still tried to charge a 12.5% service charge.
Protentious people fill this terrible venue. There are plenty of places better than this.
One of those evenings you will remember for a while. Was completely blown away by the decor. As soon you turn into this backstreet you think what am i letting myself into and then you enter this most amazing space. It feels a little New York, a little far eastern fantasy and a little french boudoir. So really its a little confusing but it really comes together rather amazingly and its really cosy. Its packed with beautiful people and the staff are not offish like some of these 'trendy' places. It is joy and the drinks are an education of tastes. Was really impressed by the concoctions. Will be our treat from now on.
A group of us went for New Years eve and had the best time ever. I think they got it just right. Not too much hype and over promising. They got all the basics right and we danced the night away. I have been a regular for years and have seen the staff come and go but the place still has its magic. I hope it stays this way for a long time to come.
Incredibly sexy place to meet friends for a drink and a yummy grazing menu. We kept trying their endless cocktail list and topping up the food order as everything complimented each other so well. Ok admittedly we had some help from the very knowledgeable staff about what to order. The decor plus the cocktails makes a very heady experience. We also ended up making friends with the table next to us. Loungelover is certainly not for the shy and stuck up as this place encourages you to be less inhibited and feels like you are on holiday in some exotic faraway place. A true escapist experience. Can't wait to book the next flight out.
I would advise steering clear of Loungelover. The staff are rude and seem uninterested in doing their jobs. The drinks and food are no better than average. There are far better bars in London and Shoreditch than this.
My name is Rhys Thomas. I am a writer and a comedian and I just have to tell you about the hypocrites who run this place. It gets good, trust me....Don't book Lounge Lover I beg you - my wife organised a surprise party for my 30th Birthday - they asked for a £1500 plus VAT deposit plus a minimum spend of a whopping £9,000 , half to be paid up front. She kept ringing us asking 'How many people are coming' when we said we didn't know for sure, she snapped 'Well you should by now!' Come on, any moron knows that you can't say exactly how many people are coming.
When we decided that it was too much money and we couldn't guarantee we'd spend that, we asked if we could cancel it two weeks prior to the event. They said we could, but we wouldn't get our deposit back. Even though we gave them two weeks notice, AND they could still open and get that money from the public, the snooty lady refused, reminding us of the small print in the contract, after 4 weeks, no refund. Damn it. So that was that. No leg to stand on. they couldn't even offer half or some -effectively, they made £1500 for nothing.
Friends really raved about this place and finally made it here. Loungelover did not fail to impress. Got lost trying to find it but the locals seem to know where it is. My friends were spot on about this place. Its so different from anywhere else and has some of the best cocktails i've ever tasted. The combinations are so clever with really equally witty names. The staff are really friendly and charming. Would go back any day.
We went on Saturday and had the best evening ever. It was such a fabulous atmosphere aided by very good background music. The level of the music enabled us to speak without having to shout and losing our voices like in some bars. Even though it was really busy you never ever felt that your were being squashed or pushed to one side. The staff are charming and very helpful. Our party increased at the very last minute and they were very nice about it. They managed to switched things around to fit us in. It is so nice to be in a beautiful venue surrounded by beautiful people and served by such lovely staff. A truly memorable evening and i would like to express my thanks to everyone for making it such a splendid evening..
Simply amazing decor and probably the best cocktails i have ever tasted. Loungelover oozes decadence and style. You can't help but feel great to be in there. I love the setting, down a grimy backstreet and the surprise when you enter pass the glass doors. There is so much drama and imagination here. I can see how this place can intimidate some people. It really helps that the staff are really nice and helpful. It makes such a change to have somewhere so charming ,warm and from the heart, to go to.
We had a reserved a table at Lounge Lover over the weekend. The doorman had an attitude problem, and the management had double-booked our area with another group of people. We chose to ignore these disappointments, and attempted to order some cocktails, only to be faced by a waitress with an attitude problem. We left, went to another bar, where we spent our money and our precious free time with the rest of our friends. Lounge Lover used to be fantastic but it appears to have gone down the attitude-gutter. Not sure for how long the eclectic decor will continue to attract people. There are so many other bars that have equally unusual decor. So stay away from Lounge Lover unless you have time and money to waste.
I was in from New York for the weekend and had a reservation at Loungelover. It was a complete disappointment. The establishment lost our reservation, the doorman was a pompous oaf, the waitress had an attiude problem and the manager was incompetent. The crowd was inexplicably arrogant. When we complained about our treatment, the manager threatened to sue us. Loverlounge does not understand basic concepts of event hosting, customer service or professionalism. If you have something to prove, then this is a fine way to waste your evening. Otherwise save your money and your time and choose more wisely. Look for Internet posts with related pictures . . .
Simply the most imaginative bar in london. Great cocktail list and really tasty bites. The service is outstanding and very warm. Such a change from all the dark dinghy bars in london. The name loungelover is apt as my friends and i were so comfortable as if we were in some glamorous person's lounge. A real treat for the eyes and an amazing ambience. Can we have more places like this in london, please.
Great looking venue, no doubt about it. I have to agree with what the majority of reviewers are saying. Some of the staff are atrocious, one of the hosts clearly had no idea about the cocktail he was recommending as it was almost the complete opposite of how he described it.
The closing time kick out charade was like a scene from the pied piper only instead of a pleasant flute player to coax us out, it was a marauding female hostess. I'm sure she would have treated Madonna nicely though and not complained that the star was keeping her up way past her bedtime.
Having said that, her ferocious skills were appreciated in kicking out the people who were in our pre booked room as we had arrived late.
I'd go again to give the benefit of the doubt but I always think when you're paying £75 for a bottle of 42 Below, staff service should be impeccable.
Wow,wow! Never been here before but ventured in with friends after we had a disasterous evening at beach blanket babylon. Its like night and day. Pleasant welcoming staff who knew what they were doing. The cocktails are amazing and so was the truly tasty japanese tapas and most of us were still hungry after the inedible food at BBB. The ambience was so warm and inviting unlike beach. Apparently Loungelover was here way before BBB and the open to cash in on the popularity of Loungelover. How disgusting is that.Anyway Loungelover has nothing to worry about as the locals and their new fans will support them.
If I could give this ridiculous place a negative number rating, I would. I spent 300 pounds to book this place for myself and about 20 of my friends for my birthday. I had booked a table with bottle service all night from 10:30pm until close.
Some of my friends had turned up at the bar around 11pm and were turned away, having been told that I no longer had a table and that my reservation had been cancelled. I was running late from dinner with my closer group of friends and showed up at 11:45pm and was told that I couldn't come in.
