The Love is What You Want exhibition on show at the Hayward Gallery takes place during 2011 as Tracey Emin presents a large scale survey of her artworks. Featuring pieces from the early days of her career up to the present day, the Tracey Emin exhibition is certain to cause much excitement in the artworld and amongst fans of her work.
Love is What You Want exhibition
Taking place at the Southbank Centre's Hayward Gallery as part of the Celebration of the Festival of Britain, the art show by Tracey Emin is the first major exhibition to be held in London for several years. Bringing together a variety of different media, the show includes rarely seen early pieces together with more recent large scale installations, which will give fans a chance to experience an overview of the immersive and intensely personal quality of Emin's artwork. Fans are able to see painting, textiles, work on paper, photography, neon and filmwork all in the mix.
Taking over the gallery
For the duration of the Love is What You Want exhibition, the Hayward Gallery will be completely dedicated to the work of just one artist, with both floors and the two outdoor sculpture terraces filled with Tracey Emin's work. Giving visitors the chance to get more involved in her show, the exhibition features a unique message board, with which Emin will communicate her thoughts to the viewers. There will also be outdoor sculptureson show outside the gallery during the exhibition, adding another intruguing element to the art on show.
Courting controversy
As part of the Young British Artists movement from the early 90s, Tracey Emin became renowned for the semi-biographical nature of her work, which often resulted in confessional pieces, such as the embroidered and appliqued tent entitled Everyone I Have Ever Slept With. She was also nominated for the Turner Prize in 1999 for My Bed, which featured an unmade bed, surrounded by various pieces of rubbish and detritus from her life. No doubt bringing more controversy to her show this year, the Love is What You Want exhibition will certainly be one of the most talked about exhibitions of 2011.
Love is What You Want, the exhibition by Tracey Emin at Hayward Gallery takes place from 10am - 6pm, Wednesday 18th May - Monday 29th August 2011. Tickets are £12.00, £9.00-£11.00 for concessions, £7.50 for 12-18 year olds and children under 12 are free.
