One of the defining moments of the 20th Century will be celebrated with a series of events to mark the 40th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing. The Lunar Soup Events at Southbank Centre gives you the chance to find out what it was like to be the second man to set foot on the moon as that man (Buzz Aldrin) gives a rare talk. You can also party to some space-age music on the roof of the Queen Elizabeth Hall at a silent disco, hear the Heritage Orchestra perform an ode to the 60s cult British animation The Clangers, and even delve into the realms of conspiracy theories with an event called Deceitful Moon.

Buzz Aldrin at London Literature Festival
Back in 1969, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong became the first men to step foot on the moon. Buzz Aldrin’s talk as part of the Lunar Soup Events at Southbank Centre promises to give you a first-hand account of the event that changed the world. Reading from his memoir Magnificent Desolation, Buzz Aldrin will regale you with all of the exciting drama as it unfolded on the eventful mission.

Silent Arena Space Disco
If you’ve attended a silent disco at the Southbank before, the chances are you will be a fully signed up member to the fan club. Taking place as part of the Lunar Soup Events at Southbank Centre, the Silent Arena Space Disco will allow you to dance on a space-themed roof top at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. DJs Jonny Trunk and Nick Brown will be selecting the intergalactic-inspired sounds as party-goers bust some moves.

The Heritage Orchestra Play The Clangers
The cult BBC stop motion animation The Clangers inspired a whole generation of people and is rightfully acknowledged as hugely influential in terms of its music and sound effects. If you are a fan of the animation, one of the highlights of the Lunar Soup Events at Southbank Centre will be the Heritage Orchestra recreating music from the golden age of British children’s TV.

Deceitful Moon
To provide an alternative version of events to the rest of the Lunar Soup Events at Southbank Centre, there’s an exhibition which explores the possibilities that it was the biggest wind-up of them all. Artists such as Tom Dale, William Hogarth, Alexandra Mir and Amalia Pica are showcasing their work in this free event, which takes place at the Hayward Project Space.

The Lunar Soup Events at Southbank Centre take place from Saturday 4th July-30th August 2009. Performance times and ticket prices vary. For more information and to book your tickets, click on the link below.
