An exhibition of Maison Martin Margiela at Somerset House takes place this summer as the fashion house celebrates 20 years at the forefront of cutting edge design. Renowned as one of contemporary fashion's most enigmatic designers, this is your chance to get up close and personal with designs from the last two decades.

Maison Martin Margiela at Somerset House
Exploring the nature of their unique approach, the world of Maison Martin Margiela comes to Somerset House following a show at the Mode Museum of Antwerp (where the head designer is from) last year. With a range of unconventional and non-traditional designs and frabrics, Martin Margiela has gone from a design assistant under Jean Paul Gaultier in the 80s to becoming the head of his own fashion house.

Art, fashion, film and photos
Covering the course of the last 20 years the exhibition on Maison Martin Margiela at Somerset House features a whole host of fashion inspired art. Including art installations, photos, video and film it will shed light onto the personality of the brand that has been maintained through the anonymity of Martin Margiela and its capaity for radical invention.

High fashion
Fashionistas will be given the opportunity to learn about the history of the brand, understand the philosophy of its themes and get to grips with its avant garde couture ideals. Ranging from deconstructivist, subversive design to understated branding and unusual boutique interiors, various iconic pieces on show at Maison Martin Margiela at Somerset House. Both womens and menswear feature in the exhibition, along with the often replicated Tabi boots and one off garments created especially for the show.

Late Studio night
Those who want to get more hands on with fashion having been inspired by the Maison Martin Margiela exhibition should head to Somerset House on Wednesday 7th July 2010 for a special Late Studio event. Here you can bring along your white clothes, scraps or accessories for a chance to swap or customise them with the help of able fashionistas. Tickets are £15.00 and include entry to the exhibition, plus a glass of wine. The event starts at 6.30pm.

The exhibition celebrating 20 years of Maison Martin Margiela at Somerset House takes place from 10am - 6pm, Thursday 3rd June - Sunday 5th September 2010. Tickets are £6.00 or £5.00 for concessions. Kids under 12 go free.
