Those fortunate enough to get their hands on Master Builder tickets will see Gemma Arterton joined by Stephen Dillane on the Almeida Theatre stage, as Henrik Ibsen’s fascinating tale of power and deception arrives in London. With Gemma Arterton playing the role of Hilde Wangle and Stephen Dillane taking the role of the Master Builder himself, this Almeida Theatre production looks set to be one of the most talked about of 2010.

Classic Henrik Ibsen tale
The Master Builder is one of the Henrik Ibsen’s most enjoyable plays, and with Kenneth McLeish giving it an impressive translation, the characteristic Ibsen nuances and theatrical conceits will remain. The Master Builder tells the tale of Harvard Solness (Dillane), whose career has reached its pinnacle but at the cost of his family. With the arrival of Hilde Wangel (Gemma Arterton), Solness’ life and professional endeavour take on a new meaning, but does this come at a price too?

Gemma Arterton
The undoubted draw of the Almeida Theatre’s production of the Master Builder is the presence of Gemma Arterton, one of the world’s rising stars both on stage and on screen. Having found fame at the Shakespeare’s Globe, and having cemented her impressive reputation with television appearances in Tess of the D’Urbervilles, she went on to find fame on the silver screen with performances in St Trinian’s, The Quantum of Solace and the Prince of Persia. Her role in the Master Builder will be a welcome return back to the stage, having been hugely impressive in her last role in the Little Dog Laughed.
