Get lost in the history and culture of the West End within the maze at Trafalgar Square, a temporary installation that is popping up for five days underneath Nelson's Column.

Giant maze
With its sprawling public transport system, one way roads and bustling cultural scene, London can sometimes seem like a giant maze even to those who have been born and bred in the capital. Measuring 18m by 25m, the maze at Trafalgar Square aims to help you discover the overlooked gems and hidden histories to be found in the West End of the city, regardless of whether you're a long term resident or a new visitor.

Get lost
Recreating some of London's most famous streets, lanes and squares, the maze at Trafalgar Square gives you the chance to learn some fascinating facts about the cultural history of some of the city's most iconic landmarks. As well as key facts on the likes of Leicester Square, the Covent Garden Piazza, Saville Row, Oxford Street and Seven Dials, the maze also celebrates some of the West End's hidden gems.

Fascinating facts
While you're weaving backwards and forwards throughout the maze at Trafalgar Square, you'll come face to face with an array of fascinating facts about the West End, from the story that Carnaby Street apparently inspired Ray Davies to write The Kinks hit Dedicated Follower of Fashion, to the rumour that Trafalgar Square is the home to the world's smallest police station. You can also find out where to find the only street in the UK where cars are driven on the right hand side, and which Tube station stairway is allegedly haunted by the ghost of actor William Terris.

Live entertainment
Those lucky enough to find your way to the centre of the maze can enjoy live entertainment which highlights the cultural, dining and shopping opportunities available throughout the West End. There's a rolling programme of events taking place in the middle of the maze, which means that you can pay a return visit and discover something new each day.

The maze at Trafalgar Square is open from Monday 2nd August - Friday 6th August 2010. Opening hours are 12pm - 8pm on Monday, and 11am - 8pm Tuesday - Friday. Admission is free.
