The ViewLondon Review
Situated on Oxford Street, this small, unassuming basement club has played host to some of the most recognized bands around, including the Yeah Yeah Yeah and Kings of Leon. The VenueThere is no getting away from it - Metro is tiny! When you walk down the steps and enter the heaving room you’re looking for the rest of it, but you’re in it. For the number of people this club attracts, the venue is way too small. It’s very dark, very dingy and if you can’t keep your moves to a small shuffle with your arms pinned to your sides then this probably is not the place for you.
Located on Oxford Street, this club is in a prime position. It’s convenient to get to, with buses, tube stations and cabs on its doorstep. The decor inside is nothing special and is unmemorable - it’s a basement, nothing more and nothing less.
The AtmosphereMetro attracts hardcore music fans, rock kids and the usual big groups of older teenagers who descend upon Oxford Street clubs en-masse. The atmosphere is lively and rowdy. The packed out venue leads to at times an uncomfortably chaotic mood.
The MusicThe high point is undoubtedly the music. The club has built up a solid reputation as a rock venue. Famed for attracting some very big names in music, including The Fray, Paolo Nutini and The Klaxons, Metro has created quite a following of fans who know they will see great live acts before they hit the big time. Its club nights are equally well-liked, with the queues outside Metro at the weekend testament to its popularity.
The DrinkConsidering the location of this club, the drinks are very reasonably priced. It may not have glamorous cocktails on offer but it’s cheap and cheerful. The usual choice of beers and spirits are on sale.
The Last WordThe popularity of Metro means it may well have out grown it humble beginnings. The venue is way too small, and despite protests that it’s part of the rock and roll feel, it's a big letdown.
