Michael Jackson at Madame Tussauds

A new waxwork of Michael Jackson is on show at Madame Tussauds. The figure was due to be unveiled as part of the singer's This Is It upcoming in tour in London. In the wake of his death, the London attraction has decided to make the new waxwork of Michael Jackson at Madame Tussauds a tribute to the King of Pop.

A Celebration of His Life
Madame Tussauds say the figure is a celebration of the singer's 40-year career following his tragic death of a cardiac arrest in June 2009. The unveiling of the model was due to coincide with his triumphant comeback at the 02. The new Michael Jackson at Madame Tussauds will appear in a special dedicated area in the Music Zone. It will be surrounded by archive material in tribute to the singer to reflect the long-standing relationship Michael Jackson had with the attraction.

Pop Icon
Aside from the Queen, the singer is the most featured personality at Madame Tussauds. Model-makers have created 13 figures of Michael Jackson at Madame Tussauds, from his Thriller days, to the Dangerous tour and now this tribute. This not only reflects the star's ever-evolving look, but his status as a pop icon. His records sales have reached more than 750 million worldwide and Thriller is the biggest selling album ever. He has been inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice and received a Living Legend Award in the early nineties.

Jackson Trademark
The model took four months to create and is based on an original sitting the singer did for Madame Tussauds back in 1989 as well as photography and promotional material for the This Is It tour. The new figure of Michael Jackson at Madame Tussauds is has all the singer's trademarks. He's depicted as wearing a fresh white v-neck T-shirt, black fedora, sparkly black jacket, the classic white socks and ankle-skimming black trousers, black loafers and, of course, a single white glove.

Archive Footage
The new Michael Jackson at Madame Tussauds is based on the poster for the This Is It tour, which would have seen the 50-year-old singer perform 50 sell-out dates at the O2. The sculptors have recreated his classic pose with one arm outstretched, pelvis thrust forward as he pitches himself on to his tiptoes. As well as the new model, fans will be able to see archive footage of Michael Jackson at Madame Tussauds, not only posing for model-makers but also visiting the tourist attraction while on trips to London.
