Enjoy the magic of the theatre under the stars with the Midnight Matinees at Globe Theatre. Providing an unusual and magical atmosphere, three special performances from the summer programme take place at midnight, inviting you to experience Shakespeare in a totally unique situation.

Kicking off the Midnight Matinees at Globe Theatre is the fantastic A Midsummer Nights Dream which is showing appropriately enough on 21st June 2008. Venture into the spirit of midsummer night itself with this magical Shakespeare play which leads you into a world of sprites, fairies, donkeys, talking walls, and spells. Love eventually conquers all, but not until the world of humans and the world of magic has become intertwined.

Friday 4th July sees the next Midnight Matinee performance at Shakespeares Globe Theatre, as the Merry Wives of Windsor set out to wreak havoc and cause much hilarity with their mayhem. A fantastic Shakespearian comedy with a brilliantly complicated plot, involving bluff and double bluff, Sir Falstaff is the clown at the centre of the play who sets out to woo wealthy women and ends up with more than he bargained for.

Ending the run of the late night shows, the last of the Midnight Matinees at Globe Theatre is a performance of King Lear on Friday 1st August. One of the best known and best loved of all the tragedies, King Lear tells a tale of an old and now unstable monarch attempting to decide which of his daughters to give the crown to after his abdication. A story of deceit and greed, the play is a bleak look at the ways in which power corrupts and those who hold it, can never be sure who to trust.

Saturday 21st June - A Midsummer Nights Dream
Friday 4th July - Merry Wives of Windsor
Friday 1st August - King Lear
