The Moniker Art Fair London event hits town for the second time this year as it goes head to head with the Frieze Art Fair. Bringing together a selection of some of the finest urban artists around, the fair highlights galleries from all over the world, presenting a mix of international artists.
Moniker Art Fair
London has its fair share of art fairs, and you may not necessarily think that we need another one, but the Moniker Art Fair is different in that it represents a more street style attitude, with galleries showcasing work from graffiti and urban artists. A much more personal affair, the fair is also set to feature project spaces, where artists have created special installations just for the weekend.
Banksy et al
You may think that the world of urban or graffiti art begins and ends with Banksy, but there are many other street artists out there who deserve just as much attention. Aiming to highlight not only key artists from the London area, the Moniker Art Fair is bringing together an international spectrum of talent, featuring work from the all around the world. Last year galleries from London, Berlin, Los Angeles and New York are also in the mix, representing the top urban artists from their area.
Installations and film screenings
In a move to challenge the more traditional London art fair scene, the Moniker Art Fair is hosting six project spaces at the Village Underground where visitors will get a much more interactive feel for the art. Here artists will create site specific installations, giving you the chance to see more varied and large format art on show at the fair. In addition to the project spaces, film screenings will take place every night from 7pm, adding to the buzz and excitement of the contemporary art scene.
Acclaimed talent
Although you will probably have heard of the likes of Shepard Fairey, Swoon or galleries such as the Black Rat Press, you've won't have seen their work on show at any of the other London art fairs. Critically acclaimed by museums and galleries the world over, the majority of the artists on show at the Moniker Art Fair London event have been overlooked for contributing to the more traditional fairs, and consequently have less contact with the general public. Now artists like these are being represented at Moniker, where their art is on show to critics, collectors and urban art fans alike.
The Moniker Art Fair London show takes place from Thursday 13th - Sunday 16th October 2011 at Village Underground. Entrance is free.
