The story of Monkey Journey to the West tells the tale of Monkey, the headstrong hero of the opera who must redeem himself after crossing the powerful Buddha. Monkey travels to India with a holy monk in an attempt to bring the Holy Scriptures back to China in what turns out to be a captivating journey of spiritual enlightenment.

After considerable success in its first showing at the Manchester International Festival, Monkey Journey to the West's transfer to the Royal Opera House looks set to be just as popular.
