Monument tickets will soon be available to purchase as the 202ft monument to the Great Fire of London of 1666 reopens to visitors in February 2009. Monument tickets will enable Londoners to enjoy great views of the capital from one of London’s most impressive landmarks, in the same spot where the Great Fire started.

Monument tickets will offer a great panorama of the capital, with a full 360 degree vantage from sixteen stories up. The monument is repaired once every hundred years so it will be reopened with a huge fanfare, showcasing the brand new viewing gallery that sits 160 feet up, where sumptuous views of the City and beyond can be enjoyed. Monument tickets can be purchased on the door but they look set to be in steep demand once it reopens.

The monument was conceived in 1666 by architect Sir Christopher Wren and surveyor Robert Hooke and now stands tall in the original Monument Yard between Fish Street Hill and Pudding Lane, where the Great Fire of London was said to have started. Over the last 18 months, the Monument has benefited from a £4.5 million pound repair and improvement project.

The project involved the cleaning and repair of the original stonework, as well as the re-gilding of the huge golden orb that sits atop the structure. So if you would like to be one of the first to enjoy the fully repaired, shiny and new Monument, pick up your tickets as soon as it reopens in February and enjoy the brand new viewing gallery.

Monument tickets will be able to be purchased on the door to visit the viewing gallery. The Monument reopens to the public in February 2009.
