Taking to the streets wearing nothing but their aprons, some brave and nearly naked Lush staff at Carnaby Streets store will be making customers aware of the impact on the environment of unnecessary packaging bought by thousands of people in this country every day.

Urging people everywhere to go "naked" and buy their products without packaging, the nearly naked Lush staff are making a stand against companies who, unlike cosmetic company Lush, use excessive amounts of plastic wrapping and thereby contribute to climate change and the detriment of the earth's oil resources.

Every year packaging contributes to 2 percent of the overall greenhouse gases and plastic uses 8 percent of the world's oil resources, all to be thrown away in the end. Lush leads the way in making products that do not require packaging: solid shampoos and deodorant bars, body butters and massage bars are all sold deli style with the customer only taking as much as they want, with no excess packaging and no waste.

And by producing solid products that are concentrated, the effect on the environment is lessened further when you compare figures for transporting liquid based soaps and shampoos that would require 15 times the amount of petrol to carry the same amount of product due as the solid concentrate.

Launching their Naked Campaign with their naked Lush staff at Carnaby Street, the environmentally friendly shop is giving customers the chance to make a difference at all of their stores all over the UK. From the 12th July anyone who spends more than £10.00 on unpackaged products gets a free shampoo bar of their choice.
